Search Engines

Having a look at CID and so far have found it is good :-TU

One thing I have found is that if typing a search query into the address bar I just get an error and not a ‘Google’ search results page, so have to go to the Homepage each time to do a search ???

I’ve had a look through the settings ( with CD there is an option to set this up ) but can’t find anything in CID

Will this be available in future?, or was it to late at night when I was playing around and I’ve missed the obvious starring right at me :-[

OPEN a New Tab and type about:config and press enter

Search for keyword.URL

RIGHT click keyword.URL and click Reset

Hope that helps.

Hi K’m-■■■-Du-Wee,

Thanks for the tip

Unfortunately when I go through to ‘Keyword.URL’ in About:config, Reset is greyed out ???

hmmm, if it is grayed then Google is the default search engine… it could be from an application or add-ons…
but you can Customize your search engines by:

ENABLE the Search Bar: CLICK View > Toolbars > Customize

Customize Toolbar: Click, hold and Drag the Search bar from the Customize Toolbar menu besides the Address bar and release

Click the Drop down arrow and click Manage Search Engines

Manage Search Engine List: you can add, remove and arrange search engines (the ones on top will be the default search engine)

Even with search bar is visible/enabled you can still type your search query directly from the address bar or you can remove the search bar by dragging it back to the Customize Toolbar menu (second image from top)

Followed the tip and now have the search bar.

I’ve got so used to CD and being able to just type a search into the address bar and getting the results instantly.

Thanks for the help and I’ll get used to using the ‘search bar’ instead :-TU

Showing the Search bar lets you manage your search engines.

I am new for CID and I had the same problem first times

Your problem I thınk it is and the solution is here
write about:config
after that write keyword.URL and double-click on it and copy-paste it

http://www.google.com.tr/search?hl=tr&q=

and say OK
You changed the searche engine into Google in CID…

This extension …

… will turn the url box back into the proper “awesome bar” like in FF, with the search engines drop-down menu etc. Works fine for me in IceDragon 22 portable and has allowed me to hide the search box and thus get more room back in the navigation bar.

The only drawback is that Dr Evil’s “Organise Search Engines” doesn’t work with it, but I’m learning to live without it. His other add-on, “Add to Search Bar” still works great with it though.
