Scanning takes hours, why?

I have noticed that scanning with 5.8x takes for ever on my and other systems. My laptop, see below config, takes 3hrs for only 20% scan. I know with the old 4.x this was the totall for 500GB.

Do you have any other Security Software Installed or System Utilities(Defrag/Optimizers) Installed?

Thanks

None at all.

Hello Again

You Said 4.8? Do you mean 5.8? and is there a file that takes a super long time to scan? also, Could you try disabling KeyScrambler then trying again? Also keep an eye if it hangs on a certain file or if another process increases CPU or Memory Usage.

FAQ: My AV scanner freezes during a scan

hope this helps.

Nope the scanner scans just slow.

Hi
I’m Gary & am new to the forum
I too am having problems when i do a routine scan of my laptop
It is taking close to 8 hrs just to scan about 25%,
I gave up on the last one as it only managed to scan 50 files in 2hours
it only seems to speed up when it gets to near the end :frowning:
& i can’t seem to find out why?
I have comodo internet security premium & it is set to Pro-active & i also have Demon as my browser
My antivirus is set to “on access”
Firewall is set to training mode
Defense+ is training mode
Sandbox is enabled
I have only had it for a few weeks & apart from very slow scans & flash crashes when trying to playback vid or they judder it seems to be running ok
Oh and it hates my itunes prog!!
Please can some one help me & keep it simple cheers
Gary

If you have been running D+ and the firewall in training mode for a few weeks, you may have an infection. Training mode is only intended for very short durations as it will create ‘allow’ rules for anything and everything. Even malware.

the same problem hapened with me. it took full night to complete 13%. just uninstall and install it again. did the same. the scan time reduced to 5 hrs. just try may help u!

It just came to my mind, my Harddisk is totally encrypted with TrueCrypt, is there something changed that this now could effect that. TrueCript is there for over a year and it’s never been a problem with Comodo.

Started a scan last night & it has just finished 14 hours to complete!!!
Anti v is set to on access
Fire wall is set to Safe mode
Defence set to safe mode
sandbos is enabled
config is in Pro
really would like to sort this out cos it’s starting to tick me off!
will please someone help me out & laymens terms please
I have no infections no viruses no malware my comp is clean!
Comodo works great happy with it apart from scans witch for ever to do

What hardware are you using Gary?

Please make sure that there are no left overs of previously uninstalled security programs around. Not all uninstallers do a proper job. And left over applications, drivers or services can cause all sort of “interesting effects”.

Following are two of my tutorials to make sure there are no more left overs.

Use existing removal tools (suited for most users)

Try using removal tools for those programs. Here is a list of removal tools for common av programs: ESET Knowledgebase .

Otherwise do a Google search with terms “removal tool” and * name of product or vendor*.

For a more technical hands on approach (for advanced users only):

We are gonna take a look to see if there are some old drivers of your previously uninstalled security programs are still around. First run "set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1’ without the quotes from the command prompt.

Then go to Device Manager → View → show hidden devices → now look under Non Plug and Play drivers → when you see a driver that belongs to your previous security programs click right → uninstall —> reboot your computer. You need to Google the driver’s names to see to what programs they belong to. You don’t want to uninstall Microsoft/Windows related drivers of course; some Microsoft drivers may show up as non active please don’t uninstall them. It is best to make a system restore point before this of course.

When the problem persists make sure there are no auto starts from your previous security programs. Download Autoruns and run it.

This program finds about all auto starts in Windows. This tool can therefore seriously damage Windows when not handled properly. After starting push Escape and go to Options and choose to hide Windows and Microsoft entries, to include empty locations and then push F5 to refresh.

Now check all entries to see if there are references to your previous security program. When you find them untick them. After unticking reboot your computer and see what happens.

I have still the same, after 4 hrs 10% is done.

Checked Device Manager and found MpKsL855f2068 with a yellow triangle? There was no other software driver.

Secunia PSI is running but should not effect CIS.

No other security software runs or is present.

That entry in your device manager is from Microsoft Security Essentials, that yellow triangle means its still connected to something, have you uninstalled Security Essentials recently?

No, I think I had this installed 2 years ago to see what tis was and how it worked. Are you sure and how do I remove this?

Further more I found that after setting all the AV scanners back from scan max. 40MB to 20MB that scans works normal and after 3 hrs it was done. So The problem is CIS having problems scanning big files on slow machines?

Yes I’m sure its from Microsoft, the only way i know of uninstalling it would be to reinstall Security Essentials then uninstall it with an application like Revo Uninstaller. As far as your scan speed i had the same problem and had to uninstall Comodo Antivirus, i still use the firewall. You need is to submit a ticket to Comodo support to have this issue resolved, I’m not a tech I’m a user same as you.
