Save Comodo Time Machine!

Couldn’t agree more - I always set up systems with 2 physicals drives - one for the OS and apps and the second for data. The OS/apps drive is protected by snapshotting (after an initial image backup) and the data volume has regular scheduled backups taken to at least two other locations/media.

Note : there are only two types of computer users - those who have lost data and those who are just about to.

+1 Panic. Jesus saves. God backs up. Twice. On two different angelic mediums, one of which is always stored away from Heaven. ;D

Melih where are you? The long-suffering CTM fans are eagerly awaiting for your input. It’s now almost spring 2013. What’s happening to our favorite proggie? Is it still alive? Can we have some proper info about it? People keep asking about it on other forums and I find it hard to convince them that it is still alive. Some transparency of development would be really nice!

Is CTM3 still on the waiting list? Melih, Razvan, any updates?

Come back here to see any news… but, as I’ve thought, it’s pretty dead…

So, our beloved CTM looks pretty much dead. This is a sad end to one of the most promising programs that Comodo has ever released. I’m really gutted about it.

I somehow get the distinct feeling that Razvan has encountered problems with TRIM compatibility; so they probably decided to shelve the project altogether. Melih, Razvan, please correct me if I’m wrong. Not that I expect an answer any time soon… If we do get one it will probably be a single sentence reply, similar to what we got in the past.

I would be surprised to see a true snapshot program that has no problem with TRIM. Horizon DataSys for example falsely claims that TRIM works under Rollback RX, when in fact testing has proven conclusively and beyond the shadow of a doubt that TRIM is most definitely non-functioning under RX. Despite all the time and resources those guys have put on RX 10, they still haven’t managed to find a proper TRIM workaround. It really sounds like a hard nut to ■■■■■.

The sky is falling again?

Melih has already stated what is going on. Unless he makes a statement to the contrary, it’s not fair to assume the project is dead.

Hey boss, the sky’s still there last I checked. CTM wasn’t. Melih has given us a single-phrase reply ages ago and nothing ever since.

I suspect that they’re stuck at the TRIM workaround point, simply because 99% of all LV/IRS apps all suffer from a similar issue of failing to attain true TRIM compatibility.

This is what the boss himself tells us:

Just how long does the one project ahead take now days?

I can’t wait to see what is so important that it stays ahead of such an asked for program like CTM that has keeps it back all this time. It’s going to be a whopper and make international news. Its got to be huge!!! Stupendous!! Breathtaking! Monumental! Maybe even miraculous! Better than CMT!

I had this app installed once, probably a couple of years ago. Recommended it to those on a Windows 7 Forum, especially to those who don’t backup. According on whom is doing the counting, 60 to 90% of Home users had no (as in zero) backup plan in place whatsoever.

Furthermore (this pertains to the topic), too many new computer buyers either aren’t reading their owner’s manual and/or disregarding inbuilt OEM popups (reminders) to create recovery media. This is important for two reasons. First, the recovery partition (normally hidden) can get corrupted, in particular if the original drive has been cloned to another or SSD. Then it’s useless.

Secondly, when it comes time for the HDD to be replaced (it will), Windows 7 can be iffy about being cloned onto a new drive. It may run fine, it may not. I’ve had it to go both ways. It’s best to have that recovery DVD set & not need it, than not have it & become SOL. No backup, no recovery media & sometimes downloading a Windows 7 ISO & creating a install DVD just doesn’t work with the COA on the computer.

This is where CTM fills a gap. Better than System Restore. Only catch, make sure that your HDD is defragged before using it, if not, until removal of the app, it can’t be defragged properly. Naturally, this doesn’t apply to those with SSD’s, but those who has to run the GC thingy should run it beforehand.

I say better than System Restore, because System Restore cannot be relied on to bail one out of a jam. Especially those who dual boots between two OS’s, like myself. Somehow during the switching back & forth, as well as major updates such as service packs, all System Restore points are wiped clean.

In any case, CTM snapshots weren’t affected be any of the above. Yes, if a SP is released & the user is satisfied, create a new snapshot & trash the rest. Very few wants to revert to the prior SP.

Being that I religiously backup with EaseUS Todo Workstation every week, I don’t need this offering, however many does. What is going on with the app? It’s been awhile, most of those I recommended it to says it was buggy (this is where preparation is key). I am hoping that it works with Windows 8.

I join those whom wants to keep the Comodo Time Machine rolling & hope that it’s not getting kicked to the curb. Huge potential in such an app for all Windows users.

Is it alive or it is already buried?

Seems so. Looking at the period of time it has been inactive, I strongly feel that this product is being discontinued… (A jewel in Comodo’s crown is being lost…)

Its crazy its been a year already since we last heard anything.

Not completely true:

This is what the boss himself tells us:

But, that being said, in total we have been waiting a long time now.

Yea true, i forgot about that one but its been a long while nonetheless

its just a shame that another project got priority over CTM. Last time we heard from Razvan he said they were almost done with CTM.

The latter makes the pill extra hard to swallow…

Yes, I agree 2 and 1/2 years since CTM2.9beta’s release do seem to be a long time for CTM users/lovers !

Actually CTM2.9beta is highly stable on my platforms and it’s extremely light on the system. The well-known drawback (slow snapshot restoration) that some folks experience may be lessened somewhat by keeping a minimal # of snapshots and updating baseline regularly (i.e.monthly).

Comodo Firewall and CTM are two of my favorite programs other than the OS (Win7) itself. :-TU

I still enjoy CTM 2.8 on my office PC.

BTW folks, the truth about RX and TRIM is finally out:

I gave RX a high score because in the absence of a better alternative, RX is currently the only true snapshot app available, and it is also very stable. I test software every day and using snapshot software is a great time saver for such a task.

I just hope that Razvan has found a proper way to allow TRIM commands to reach the SSD controller. It’s a shame that nobody at Comodo seems to be willing to give us some details on this crucial matter. If a CTM3 alpha was to be given for preliminary testing I could have published a short news article about how Comodo has managed to become the first company to produce true snapshot software that allows for TRIM commands to go through. Horizon DataSys has been cooking RX10 for more than two years, and they still haven’t managed to solve this thing properly.

I have explained this to both Melih and Razvan but they both seem to be uninterested in positive publicity. My last few ■■■ to them have been consistently ignored.

Does CTM 2.9 Beta support TRIM ?

or CTM 3 is supposed to support ?
