A. BUG/ISSUE
[ol]- Summary
I’m having an issue with virtualization of all browsers (except IE10): none of them start if opened with the icon or desktop widget. All of the browsers work normally (not virtualizaed). Tried resetting Sandbox. Tried running through Kiosk.
Can U reproduce the problem & if so how reliably?:
Reproduced every instance.
If U can, exact steps to reproduce. If not, exactly what U did & what happened:
Select browser from widget or create desktop short cuts. Each error: Comodo Dragon: “Comodo Dragon cannot read and write to its data directory:” (choose another directory) “Comodo Dragon has stopped working.” Comodo IceDragon: “Profile Missing” “Your IceDragon Profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.” (OK) Google Chrome: nothing opens. Firefox: “Profile Missing” “Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible.” (OK)
If not obvious, what U expected to happen:
If a software compatibility problem have U tried the conflict FAQ?:
No documentation on virtualization start up errors on Comodo or Web.
Any software except CIS/OS involved? If so - name, & exact version:
None.
Any other information, eg your guess at the cause, how U tried to fix it etc:
Tried selecting link, run as admin. Tried resetting sandbox. My User account is located on my D drive (permanent, local partition), but there is a junction point created between C:\Users\User and D:\User. No other software experiences issues from this.
Have U made any other changes to the default config? (egs here.):
Default install. No changes. Geek was NOT installed.
Have U updated (without uninstall) from a CIS 5?:
Clean install to CIS6.
[li]if so, have U tried a a clean reinstall? If not please do.:
Attempted.
[/li]- Have U imported a config from a previous version of CIS:
No.
[li]if so, have U tried a standard config - if not please do:
[/li]- OS version, SP, 32/64 bit, UAC setting, account type, V.Machine used:
OS: Windows 8 Home 64bit
Hardware: Acer Aspire, Intel i5-3317U (x64), 8GB RAM
UAC: Recommended
Account Type: Admin
VM: None.
Other security/s’box software a) currently installed b) installed since OS: a= ClamWin b=
SandboxIE [/ol]
Solution: None yet - 2013 - 06(Jun) - 21
Change 1: updated format to guideline.
Change 2: added Kiosk attempt.
If I am understanding you correctly, CIS is installed on C-drive, but the applications are installed on D-drive. This is likely the cause of the problems, but either way I would consider this to be a bug.
Thank you very much for your report in standard format, with all information supplied. The care you have taken is much appreciated by Comodo, and will increase the likelihood that this bug can be fixed.
Developers may or may not communicate with you in the forum or by PM/IM, depending on time availability and need. Because you have supplied complete information they may be able to replicate and fix the bug without doing so.
Cause Identified
The User profile located on the D drive is the issue. I logged into my Admin account (C Drive) and the virtual programs launch. Thank you again for the swift response!
To be clear: NO programs are installed on the D drive. All programs are installed in C:\Program Files [(x86)] with program data in C:\ProgramData. Only the User profile was moved. A junction point exists such that all programs (including Windows Explorer) believe the profile is located in C:\Users\User, and not D:\User. I see all extraneous data going to D:\User\AppData via the junction.
I’ve never seen issues from moving the user profile with other applications, including virtual/sandboxed apps. It’s unfortunate because I always configure machines with the (main) User profiles on a separate partition. It allows for quick system restoration via 3rd party apps (pref. ClozeZilla) without affecting user docs. My current and previous employer both did something like this; it is where I got the idea from.
I agree Chiron, and Comodo needs to check if it has a problem with the virtualisation of junction pints as these are widely used from Win & onwards and issues with this would cause deep and subtle issues.
Can you please check and see if this is fixed with the newest version (6.3.294583.2937)? Please let us know whether it is fixed or you are still experiencing the problem.
Can you please check and see if this is fixed with the newest version (7.0.313494.4115)? Please respond to this topic letting us know whether it is fixed or if you are still experiencing the problem.
The devs have not marked this as Fixed in the tracker. However, sometimes bugs are fixed by the release of new versions, but not marked as Fixed in the tracker.
If you are able please check with the newest version (CIS version 8.0.0.4337) and let me know if this is fixed on your computer with that version.
