Does anyone know why received faxes are consistently rotated 180°? is this a preference somewhere, or is it sender-error, or what?

Can be sender error, can also be (if you are reading via computer screen) a setting in your reader.
The sender is faxing the documents that way. trustfax accepts the fax as it is sent.
You can use your pdf reader program to rotate the fax.
