I just checked recognizers files out of curiosity and noticed the main anti-malware one has not been updated for 1 year and the cryptomalware one hasn’t been updated for 5 years. While I know these don’t need to be updated as regularly as signatures I find it hard to believe they didn’t find anything worthwhile including as an update for 1 year and that there hasn’t been any new crypto malware that needed inclusion for 5 years… just wondering…

Containment doesn’t require local signatures for either, files automatically checked in the cloud. You can see how many signature updates are added here: Comodo Signature Updates Database. If you enable Full Signature base in the Update Settings, it will download the latest signatures. CIS ships with a light database to reduce local database size (250mg compared to around 800mb).

I don’t see a reason why recognizer files wouldn’t be updated in 1 year and it would use “online” signatures for those. They are not the same as regular virus definitions, they are a separate thing.
