Problems connecting to internet after completely removing Comodo!! [Resolved]

Windows XP professional Service Pack 2 (spanish language)
Comodo 3.0.15.277

I am going to try to be very clear.

I don’t know how to fix this.

I followed the instructions from this thread:

https://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/comprehensive_instructions_for_completely_removing_comodo_firewall_pro_3_info-t17220.0.html

I think the reason of the problem began when I did this command:

NET STOP WINMGMT /Y

I executed it and tried deleting the folder “Repository”.

It said it could not be deleted because some other application was using it.

I restarted the computer, executed again the command and this time I could delete the folder.

The problem begins when I restart the computer and try to connect to the internet.

I’m connected directly to a router/modem/wireless with my ethernet card.

Well, when I plug the cable to the router the icon of the ethernet card remains as, “trying to obtain an address” and does not change. If I turn off windows firewall it connects. When I get connected, I turn on Windows Firewall. Done this, I have no problems with internet. Everytime I restart the computer I have to do the same.

I install the new version of Comodo, reason why I completely removed Comodo, and the same thing happens, but this time I have to turn on Windows Firewall and it connects. When I get connected, I turn off Windows Firewall.

Any ideas???
Do I have to uninstall Comodo again and execuete the command??
Do I have to execute the command again without unistalling Comodo??
Any other option that resolves this issue??

Maybe, some service has to be activated?? I say this because 2 or 3 days before uninstalling Comodo, I changed the way some services start (Disable, Manual, Automatic). But my connection or programs worked well after doing the services change. The problem started when I followed the instructions in that thread and as I said before I think it was due to the command, NET STOP WINMGMT /Y.

If you need more information, I will be pleased to answer.

I may have the solution for you, as I encountered a somewhat similar problem last night while updating my laptop to v.277.

  1. Disconnect your Cable/ADSL modem AND your router from their power sources for a couple of minutes.
  2. Disconnect your Ethernet cable from the router to your PC.
  3. Perform a repair of your WinSock and your Layered Service Provider (LSP). This will fix any problems you may be having with your TCP/IP protocol stack.
  4. Obtain these tools from: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.zip and WinSock XP Fix - fix XP internet connectivity
  5. Be sure to read any attached documentation for those tools before proceeding. Their use is fairly straight-forward, but carelessness could result in your having to reinstall your OS.
  6. Reboot when prompted by either tool.
  7. Reconnect your modem, router and PC cables and power sources.

If the above fails, then I would revert to a previous System Restore point at which CFP was NOT installed. If you have no SR point, then boot into Safe Mode and select “Last Known Good Configuration”, which will restore a good working registry.

You can then proceed to reinstall CFP v.277. But make sure you’ve removed all remnants and references to Comodo on your system (assuming you are using only CFP).

Post back and let us know the results.

Ok. Fixed the problem.

My LSP was Ok. Didn’t have to fix anything. Winsock fix, well, it returned Netbios to operate, but that was not the problem.

The problem was the configuration of some services (Disabled, manual or automatic). I think the important one was DHCP client, that was on maunual and should of been automatic. I fixed it putting every service to its default. Now I’m studying a bit more the services before changing them and see what happens…

So the problem was my fault. Changed some services state. But what I don’t understand why the problems appeared when I uninstalled Comodo…

Thanks,

Problem resolved, I’ll go ahead and change the title and lock the thread. If anyone wish to open it again - just send a PM to any moderator!
