Privalert Ideas

Hi

A couple of ideas for Privalert extension.

  1. Hovering over a listed threat shows a tooltip explaining the threat in detail.
  2. The number of threats shown changes colour (depending whether the threat lists are enabled or disabled).

great…

Please keep all the requests coming.

thanks

You could expand it with an advanced option to defeat browser fingerprinting. (However, I would advise that this be disabled by default as it would likely break many sites.)

Add “Hide icon” option, or “Hide notifications” (off by default)

Privalert seems to be fully automatic, and that icon with constantly changing “notifications” can be distracting.

and maybe check all categories by default.

Hi Maniak2000,
Right click the Privalert icon and select Hide button.

Thanks, didn’t know that. But now there is no easy way to whitelist a site, so “Hide notifications” option suggestion still stands, or maybe add it to right-click menu.

They are good ideas. :-TU

A workaround for now.
Open privalert options, bookmark CTRL+D that page and save it to the bookmarks bar.
That bookmark will then open direct to privalerts options, with the option to right click and open in a new tab.
Then of course hide the icon.

when you’re on a site left click the privalert icon and select whitelist site in upper right hand corner. you can remove a site the same way by clicking the icon and select remove from whitelist or manually remove it from privalert options

I meant there is no easy way to add a site to whitelist, when you right click the icon and select hide icon.

I see. do you have any ideas?

As I said before, maybe have a “Turn off notifications” option. By notification i mean that “1” number on the screenshot.

You can still click the icon to view threats and \ or add to whitelist if you want. It’s just that currently it kinda looks like you have a message or something, can be distracting for some people, I think.

To avoid becoming a malware facilitator, I suggest that Comodo register the domains privalert.com and privalert.net

This may seem petty, but why isn’t there a warning that privalert will be installed BEFORE installation in the update process?

Hi psdaengr,
It is just a new combined additional improvement to Dragon in the form of an extension.
It could have just been an integrated improvement in which case there would be no notification.
IMO being an extension is better than a direct integrated improvement in the fact that it is very easy to remove totally if not required.
I do see what you are asking but I see it as a standard browser version improvement with extra benefits being an extension.
It is not some external additional program being added without consent.
Just my thoughts, thanks.

How about…

  1. Correcting the number of threats listed under ‘Advertising’ and ensuring settings are not registered as browsing history. Whenever I delete my full history (using Dragon’s function and CCleaner), the number is reverted back to 612 instead of the preferred 613, and the extension requires updating its library, refreshing, and checking all boxes to register the extra threat again. (Will provide screenshot if needed)

  2. Correcting an occasional mini-scaled display when opening the option menu via the extension’s top-right cog button. It is impossible to get a screenshot of this event, as the screen reverts to normal if clicking anywhere on the page, but it is still an aesthetic bug worth looking into.

  3. An option to hide placeholders for blocked content. Period. Loved that choice in Adblock Plus, and despite Privalert not being an ‘ad blocker’, it is still neat to use when not desiring an ugly error message where ‘dangerous’ content would normally be displayed.

  4. A few color palettes for Privalert’s standard orange-red gradient fill would also be neat-o. It’s a petty wish, but hey…

Question, am I missing something or is there no way to select [white-list] individual threats from webpages/sites?

Example: I don’t want to block ALL threats from a particular site I want to block specific threats only. If it’s there please tell me how.

Not a techie just asking a question. Before you say un-tick in options. What I want aint there. Specifically I want to exempt “Disqus” from all sites but block all other threats.

New here so save your snide B.S. >:-D

Hi and welcome mojorisin ,
The best solution I can find is to allow (Uncheck) certain elements from the drop down menus in each category.
I realise this is not exactly what you are asking because this is not individualised to a site per site basis, it unblocks the chosen element overall.

Thanks for the reply. If I want to exempt all “Disqus threats” globally but block all others it [Disqus] is not in the drop down lists in options even though Privalert shows it AND blocks it.

I understand this is new but I assume that there is a way and I just don’t see it. Right now I am white-listing all sites with “Disqus” even though multiple other threats are there.

Thanx again
Mojorisin

Hi mojorisin,
I found one entry for Disqus under the drop down list for Widgets.
