Please change the licensing-server check from every five minutes to once per day/week

Hello,

I have noticed that cmdagent.exe repeatedly connects to:

licensing.security.comodo.com

The connection appears to occur approximately every five minutes. This happens independently of the scheduled virus-signature and program-update settings. I changed signature updates to once per day and program updates to once per month, but cmdagent.exe still contacts the licensing server throughout the day.

A licensing check every five minutes seems excessive, especially for the free version of COMODO. It means the program can contact the licensing server approximately 288 times every day, even when there is no update or other user-initiated activity.

Please change the default licensing-server check interval from every five minutes to once per day or once per week .

Please consider implementing this change in a future update.

Hi user9823742,

We have tested and couldn’t able to reproduce.
Could you please share us any related screenshot ?

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for checking this.

I have attached screenshots showing the repeated connections made by cmdagent.exe.

In the first screenshot, I created a firewall rule for cmdagent.exe and enabled logging for all outgoing requests.

The TCPView screenshots and COMODO firewall log show that cmdagent.exe makes a group of three TCP requests to port 80 approximately every five minutes. For example, the log shows three requests at approximately 10:25 and another three requests at approximately 10:30.

The outgoing requests are made by:

C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cmdagent.exe

I also checked the Windows DNS cache and confirmed that the destination addresses are associated with:

licensing.security.comodo.com

This behaviour continues while the computer is idle and no update or other user-initiated activity is taking place. It is also independent of the virus-signature and program-update schedules.

Three requests every five minutes equals approximately 288 connection cycles, or 864 individual requests, every day. This seems excessive, particularly for the free version of COMODO.

The attached screenshots demonstrate that the behaviour is reproducible. Please investigate why cmdagent.exe contacts the licensing server three times every five minutes, and please consider changing the licensing-check interval to once per day or once per week in a future update.

Please let me know if you require any additional diagnostic logs or packet captures.

@C.O.M.O.D.O_RT Any updates?

Anyone else has this issue?

Hi user9823742,

We have tested at our end and found no issues.
However we are investigating on this .
Will keep you posted .

Thanks

Why isn’t the license number showing up on mine?
It keeps displaying the message “Enter license key.”

But I’m using the free version of CIS; the license should appear by default—so why isn’t it showing up?

I installed CIS on a virtual machine on my computer, and the license number appears there, even though it’s the free version.
Why is it like this?

Sounds like your install didn’t install properly. Might have something to do with the product registration when you installed it on the VM. Can you try doing a fresh install? I have the Pro version and entering the licence key happens after you do the initial restart but a licence key should have been populated. Try a fresh install.
