A version of CCleaner came out a few weeks back containing hidden malware CCleaner malware hack: What it is and how to avoid it | PCWorld as such it was removed from the trusted vendors list. It’s since been fixed by ccleaner updates.

Eric

CCleaner is being watched before Comodo decides whether to put it back on the Trusted Vendor list.

In Monday,Pirform CCleaner has an update. This update have a new feature called Emergency Updater.

The content of Emergency Updater:
Following the security incident in September we have taken steps to improve our security across the board. Within CCleaner, this means the addition of an ‘Emergency Updater’ security feature that allows us to force a software update in a worse-case scenario. We have ring-fenced the updater in its own executable to allow it to operate independently from the main executable. The update check runs as a scheduled task in Windows.

Emergency Updater checks regularly to see if an emergency security update is available. If one is, it applies the update immediately. Checks only transmit 1-2 KB of data and generally an emergency update will consist of a differential patch roughly 500 KB in size.

Added new executable: “CCUpdate.exe”
Added new Windows Scheduled Task: “CCleaner Update”

I think this feature can make ccleaner more safe and improve the security

So can you whitelisted CCleaner?

Thank you!

Could you also please post the request in Submit Applications Here To Be Whitelisted - 2017? That way your request will certainly be seen.

So why its not removed from Trusted Vendor List in CCAV?

I think , both use the same database for the TVL adjustment or not ?!

Anyway , it was the right decision from Comodo , to handle that in this way . I also belong to those who don’t believe in the “we were hacked” theory . Just because they have “found” a few code lines that refer to a Chinese APT, this is far from being proof . I would definitely try to put wrong “footsteps” in the code ! I believe as I said , it was an inside job . From an entrepreneurial point of view , both would be a catastrophe , but the latter would be much worse , as regards reputation and loss of trust . So Avast choose the first one ! The whole thing is really , really regrettable for Piriform ! Actually a good company with good ideas and innovative thinking approaches .

I think Piriform is a good company that they develop some famous software, such as CCleaner and Recuva. And I thinking Piriform also have a good and creative idea to develop their software.
Also I think Avast has a big problem. After they acquiring, then Piriform was hacked. But last 12 years,Piriform was not have a big security problem. So Avast has a big problem in their company.

Maybe Comodo can give a chance to Piriform later?

Thank You!
