As for the PSU; I see you’re being advised to buy a decent 500W PSU. Fair enough, but a little premature. What PSU do you currently have? Considering adding kit or upgrading? If not, replace your current wattage PSU with the same… it will be a lot cheaper & a 500W PSU (if you need 350W) will not do you any good.

Sorry. :-[ I tend to look forward. People are adding additional hard drives, RAM, changing their GPU’s. Having enough Watts will never hurt ;D
I’m not saying "Get a 750 or 1000 ;D That would be stupid. 350 is enough for a PC with 4 GB RAM, 2 Hard drives and a decent video card :-TU

Well… nobody has asked you any (simple) but, fairly critical, questions… like; are all the fans spinning? Is the CPU heatsink caked in dust? What CPU & Motherboard do you have? Etc, etc…

If the CPUs an Intel & the CPU thermally triggered, then PROCHOT will be set. Some BIOS have logs & register thermal events (motherboard & BIOS dependent).

Room temperature & case open will make little difference if it’s an internal thermal problem.

PROCHOT… erm… PROCessor HOT. ;D It’s a flag on Intel CPUs that is set when the CPU forces a shutdown due to overheat.

Get some of the things gibran suggested. CPU-Z will tell us all about your system… get that & post screen shots. Speedfan will monitor temps & fan speeds. Useful. I’ve not used ThrottleWatch myself (but, gibran says what it does).

Only 2 fans? No case fan? What graphics do you have?

I can’t find a passively cooled X1650… perhaps the fan fell off?

And since ganda’s gone to bed, I’ll add some wild speculation as to why he bought this particular GC… attracted by the box maybe? ;D

oh you’re asking me? ;D i don’t know, sorry. when i bought this comp i just told the guy i want a 512mb Graphic card,he built the comp for me.
what’s CCC? ???

Have you had any more power downs? How many have you had?

How’s the dust around the components (especially the CPU fan & heatsink)?

Does the graphics card have a fan or is it passively cooled?

It looks like your Max operative temp is 73c. If your CPU temp pass this value (by an unspecified margin) then a thermal shutdown will occur.

E4x00: Tcase Max 73c, Stepping M0, TDP 65W, Idle 8W

Now you have to confirm your PC temp and put it under stress. Speedfan can optionally write all temps to a text file.

To check to see if it’s a thermal problem with the CPU, download Real Temp & run that for awhile. Real Temp should tell us if PROCHOT has been set & if you near CPUs thermal limit (TjMax).

Wow !!! 74 C ? :o 88) And you wonder why your PC shuts off ? ;D Normally the temp shoud be 40-45 C

First we need to figure out WHY your PC get’s so HOT ;D
