What does the orange triangle on the padlock stand for? (see screenshot).

I only see it when there is mixed content. What happens if you reload the page?

In this case I guess it is because https://startingpage.com/ has a DV SSL certificate.

So this is a COMODO feature rather than Chromium?

Yes, the DV SSL Warning, and using the triangle for DV is a Comodo feature, but triangle is part of Chromium (for mixed content).
