Opera 10 Learning Thread - Tips & Tricks

Since I am no longer a Firefox user and joined the Opera gang, I wanted to create a learning thread for everyone. I don’t have any tips or anything, I just want to learn more about Opera.

I am highly impressed with Opera 10, Anyway I will keep this as a reserved thread if not many people post since it’s v10 is only alpha and buggy.

Cheers,
Josh

I don’t really have too many tips :frowning: One thing that I really use alot is the magic wand (password/info filler.)

CTRL+ENTER

Click tools → Preferences → Wand | and fill out some info.

Great work. I’m a big Opera fan indeed as well. v10 made it even faster

OH! Josh, Look up “Mouse Gestures” also Opera can use Voice controlled browsing

Awesome! I’m glad to join you guys with Opera, Since you guys are my “closest” FORUM acquaintances (the ones that already typed in this thread… hehe), And thanks Kyle.

Welcome Josh. (:HUG)

You guys might find some stuff here, although the thread is a bit old:

Thanks, I’ll check it out and see if I want to replace my own urlfilter.ini file. :a0

If you want to find some text in a page just hit the . (period) button and you will see a search box.
Then type what you seek.

I wonder how much of that came from Opera forums or, more likely, Tamil’s pages (he has 100,000 posts on Opera forums!).

We had a couple of threads for this, part of which was my tip for editing the standard_keyboard.ini to:

1 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 1
2 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 2
3 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 3
4 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 4
5 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 5
6 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 6
7 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 7
8 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 8
9 ctrl=New page & Go to speed dial, 9
1 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 10
2 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 11
3 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 12
4 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 13
5 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 14
6 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 15
7 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 16
8 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 17
9 alt=New page & Go to speed dial, 18

(if you want each one on a separate tab).

Be aware that updating Opera will overwrite the .ini file in Defaults folder but it’s possible to have a copy in Profile\Keyboard that will stay there (it’s made automatically, IIRC, when an .ini file is modified in Opera’s Preferences and renamed; similarly with the standard_menu.ini).

There are buttons available to open a number of Speed Dial tabs - various permutations and also editable in toolbar.ini - available from:

http://homepage.hispeed.ch/ttt-o/button/h-bu-browser-adv.html

Have a good look around these; some can be difficult to find, but go to Content button then use / or .* and type in what you’re looking for. A button has to be clicked on and dragged smartly upwards and positioned where you want it. If you want to move it, Shift+Click-drag.

Other buttons are available from:

and http://operawiki.info/AllMenuButtons

For clearing all data (set up what you want removing by choosing in Tools-Delete private data), there’s a button at:

Shame!!! Shame on you!!!

Just kidding…

So, no idea of such amazing ads blocking urlfilter.ini? Shame, indeed. Just messing with ya!

We always have something to learn.

By the way, there is one other you could use together with it (by copy and paste  in just one urlfilter.ini)

Enjoy and everyone else as well, of course!

Best regards

Here’s a tip for Opera 9.6, I guess it works in v 10 as well.

Very often I cycle between tabs with Ctrl+Tab. Now, this cycles to the right. Sometimes maybe you have many tabs and you wish to cycle just one or a few steps to the left. On random I found out that you can do this by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Tab.

:SMLR

I knew that ages ago! (:TNG) Well, I knew that when you add the “Shift” key to a key combination, it usually does the opposite (it there is an opposite :)).

;D

I thought you only used Firefox. 88) Same feature there perhaps?

Yep, same with FF. Same also I think in IE.

Task switching in Windows (Alt-Tab) behaves the same. Try Alt-Shift-Tab.

Bah, Ctrl+Shift+… ;D “tools > preferences > advanced > shortcuts > enable single-key shortcuts”, and then you can use 1 (left) and 2 (right) in the NumPad–with NumLock enabled.

I have no numpad. ;D

Ditto. ;D
