Installation looks frozen…
It looks like I’ll have to do a manual uninstall of 5.5 first…

any solution ? i don’t want to uninstall the whole thing and redo all the rules again. ><
You could try what Egemen asks a user to try in this post.
Can you please manually run cfpupdat.exe as ADMIN and try updating then?
It can be found in C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security
Right-click the .exe and select Run as…, then select Administrator.
Please let us know if this has any effect.
Edit: Another thing to try from Egemen.
Here is another workaround: Please delete ALL *.TMP files in installation folder and retry. This issue happens when updates are cancelled at least once and TEMP files remain.
And the location of the files:
C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security*.TMP
