No GUI after configuration import

Hi.

I’m using CIS for years on my private machine here. Windows 10 22 H2. Until yesterday it was version 12.3.3.8140. I’ve exported my settings (Settings->Configuration->Export) as I always do before an upgrade, and also regularily for backup purpose. I’ve downloaded the latest one (12.3.4.8162) and ran the offline installer. The button was “Upgrade” not “Install”. which has shown me that it has recognized the previous version. So I’ve upgraded.

After reboot: No Comodo in the tray. Trying to start it manually. No start menu icon. No Comodo directory. No trace of a Comodo FW. “Upgrade” obviously meant “Uninstall” :frowning:

Ok, so I ran the installer again and installed it. Looked fine. After importing my previously saved configuration and activating it, the GUI does not respond anymore. The Comodo icon is there in the tray, but not even a right click pops up a menu. Double click does nothing, even after a long waiting period.

I was busy with this issue for 2 hours yesterday, including using the latest Comodo cleanup tool between uninstall and install.

The installation issues are not my point here. My question is: How can I import my configuration file? I need it. But if I do, the GUI is dead.

Thanks

Fixed.

I’ve narrowed the issue down by partially commenting out parts of the *.cfgx (xml format) file. Trial&error…

Finally, it was the <hips> section (within the outer <configuration> section).
If the hips section was left in, the imported config failed. Even if only the section <configuration><hips><settings> was kept, it failed.

The only difference between the working setting and the not working one is the value of the mode property:
Mode=“286720” (not working)
Mode=“17754110” (working)

Whyever…
Thanks for reading.
