[Merged] Youtube videos dont play

Hi,

suddenly dragon decided not to play any video on YT, embedded YT videos on other sites work tho, and its also OK with other browsers (IE,Mozilla).

The symptom is a black screen and a spinning wheel stuff, it loads loads but doesnt get further.

Any ideas ?
Mod edit: Added merged to the topic title, Captainsticks.

Hi Vino.

Try by disabling > Use hardware acceleration when available < under Advance settings in the bottom section of Comodo Dragon.

And see if you get any videos to work?

Hi Vino,
I’ve the same problem after I accidentally blacklisted uT in the Flash Control Extension.
I White listed it again, but when I tried to play a uT in CD, the uT screen is black with the spinning white circle in the centre of the uT screen.

I have executed the following…

  1. uninstalled the Flash Control Extension…still no uT just the black screen & spinning white circle…

  2. disabled the Flash Player plugin, closed CD, Open it again & re-enabled the plugin again, closed CD opened it again…still no uT

  3. downloaded the Flash player (non IE version), from Adobe.com with IE, because CD won’t allow a Flash Player D/L from Adobe, (be nice if it said so, instead of just sitting spinning it’s wheels!) saved it in my D/L folder & reinstalled it. (not sure if CD allows this, so maybe it didn’t reinstall??)… still no uT ??

Adobe Flash Player plugin details are:

Adobe Flash Player - Version: 11,9,900,170
Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
Name: Shockwave Flash
Description: Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
Version: 11,9,900,170
Location: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\NPSWF32_11_9_900_170.dll
Type: NPAPI
MIME types:
MIME type Description File extensions
application/x-shockwave-flash Adobe Flash movie .swf
application/futuresplash FutureSplash movie .spl
Always allowed

Fresh out of ideas at this point.
Don’t feel like reinstalling CD, yet! so hope someone else might have a better idea or two!!

Just read Nige_39 suggestion…
My Hardware Acceleration was working AOK until all this happened.
My PC is AMD Athlon 64 6000+ 8GB DDR RAM, 128GB SSD System drive,…
Cache is standard,…System & Windows TEMP/TMP folders all moved to the Data HDD.

none of these worked and I also dont have the flash control extension installed. I dont have a clue what could have changed that caused this malfunction, yesterday everything was fine with the current settings, and I have not installed updates, nor changed the settings

There must be something up with Comodo Dragon.

Some Videos run and and others don’t

I get this like shown on Capture shot.

By looking at the Capture the Spinning wheel/Loader looks off centre, And the video’s that do work look OK.

I hope this helps

Regards

Nigel

yeah this is exactly how it looks except that at my side none of the videos start(or I was just unlucky finding a good one). The strange thing is that if its embedded or if I copy the URL from the HTML code it works like a charm

Hi,

Same problem for me too! :frowning: Seems that the problem is happening only on HTML 5 videos, while Adobe Flash videos are working fine. Other browsers (FF26, IE11) are ok.

HTML5-player (using WebM/VP9) works for me if it is enabled here: https://www.youtube.com/html5

Try clearing your browsing data. Ctrl+Shift+Del
Also check that the flash plugin has not failed.
Flash player check

Hi huntsman,
The above mentioned issue can be solved by following the instructions in the link below.
Flash Plug-in installation page stuck with a continuous re-load loop.

Hello,

I’m having the same problem. But this has nothing to do with flash player (i think). It’s html5 player that stays looping.

activating/deactivating it in http://www.youtube.com/html5 doesn’t make any difference.

Some videos play with Flash Player and others don’t play with the html5 player - no matter if its active or inactive!

It’s like it’s forced used or forced active or something like that.

thanks

l

::edit::

i used this video for testing.

dragon:
html5 enabled: “video load looping” in html5 player
html5 disabled: “video load looping” in html5 player

opera:
html5 enabled: video plays in html5 player
html5 disabled: video plays in flash player

::edit2::
another test

i used this video for testing.

dragon:
html5 enabled: plays in html5 player
html5 disabled: “video load looping” in html5 player

opera:
html5 enabled: video plays in html5 player
html5 disabled: video plays in flash player

now i’m confused…

::edit3::
yet another test:

i went to this adobe page and says:

Note: Adobe Flash Player is already installed, but disabled. Click here for more information.
Version 11.9.900.170
Your system:
Windows 32-bit , English, Chrome

also checked the “Click here for more information.” info

then went to dragon:plugins and says:

Adobe Flash Player - Version: 11,9,900,170
Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
Name: Shockwave Flash
Description: Shockwave Flash 11.9 r900
Version: 11,9,900,170

Type: NPAPI
Disable
MIME types:
MIME type Description File extensions
application/x-shockwave-flash Adobe Flash movie .swf
application/futuresplash FutureSplash movie .spl

so, where is the Windows Integrated Plug-in pepflashplayer.dll ? And why adobe reports flash as disabled when in plugins page it’s enabled?

::edit4::
here i go again…

installed chrome portable Google Chrome 31.0.1650.63 (Official Build 238485) ; Blink 537.36 (@163124))

tested the 2 previous youtube videos:

html5 enabled: plays in html5 player - both
html5 disabled: plays in html5 player - both

went to chrome:plugins and says:

Adobe Flash Player (2 files) - Version: 11.9.900.170

the adobe site doesn’t complain of flash being disabled.

also, in the youtube html5 page says H.264 and MSE & H.264 are supported (in dragon aren’t).

hope this somehow can be useful.

I can confirm the issue posted by legnakrad for the following two clips with Dragon.

I have done some testing using Dragon portables.
For Dragon Version 24 and earlier, these clips play correctly.
For Dragon Version 25 and later, these clips fail to load.
Something obviously has changed since and including Dragon V25.

Note to legnakrad: PepperFlash is not integrated into Windows, it is part of Google Chrome.
As to why Adobe is reporting that your enabled Flash plugin is disabled, I am not sure.

Edit:

Just to clarify while the word ‘Disable’ is visible, it in fact means that the plugin is enabled.

Same thing happening here today. Till yesterday all was fine.

Clearing history didn’t worked.

Adobe Flash latest fine.

Win 7 64
Latest CD default settings
Nothing installed/uninstalled on the system yesterday/today.

It is not included in Chromium and therefore also not in Dragon. It is included in Google Chrome only.

Proprietary codecs are not supported by Chromium, and therefore also not by Dragon, but they are supported by Google Chrome.

Using html5:
WestJet Christmas Miracle: Real-time Giving - YouTube plays in Dragon 30 and Chrome using VP9.
- YouTube plays in Chrome using AVC, but not in Dragon, which does not support AVC.

Dragon 24 and 25 do not support VP9 (it was enabled in v. 29), which is now used in WebM on YT.

The problems with CD just keep on getting worse !

Master password crashes CD, so no Master PSWD control !
Setup fails to recover Extensions after a fresh CD installation, so ALL extensions have to be individually reloaded !
Latest Flash Player fails, miserably, to load uTube in CD, none of the moderator suggestions or the endless ADOBE suggestions are any help ! my 40 years of IT engineering are exhausted.

Problem solved after wasting hours on CD…Firefox does it all and it all works first time.

I’ve better things to do than waste more of my time doing Q&A on CD.

Hello,

It seems that some videos are being forced through the HTML5 player in both Chrome and Dragon. This means that even if Flash Player (pepperflash in Chrome) is installed and running correctly the videos will still be played via HTML5.
After changing the user agent string in both Dragon and Chrome to the Firefox user agent the videos were played through Flash Player.

We will be looking for better solutions to this problem.

Regards.

Hi George-Silviu,
Thanks for the update…Sorry to say I’ve moved to FF & have also started moving my customers to FF as well. If FF can get it right, why can’t Comodo ? It’s called QA !
I don’t have the time or patience to keep providing CD support for V30.0.0.0. It’s a dog !
I’d like a dollar for every hour I’ve spent supporting customers who are not IT skilled & don’t have a deep, bottomless wallet. The PC is supposed to assist us with our day to day activities, not delay them !

So they are now phasing out Flash Player on YT, beginning with Chromium, which supports VP9, and probably adding Firefox when it too supports VP9 (v. 28).

So from what your telling us, everyone has to suffer from the total dependence on Adobe’s cruddy Flash Player & Google’s failure to tell Chromium users & Comodo coders, in advance, they were making this major change…

We all have to suffer from this total failure to co-operate !!??

Just as well the world’s atomic reactors don’t depend on any of these coding blunders or we’d have a global melt down!!

I guess it complicates things that Dragon’s user-agent says “Chrome”, which means that YT believes it is Chrome, and assumes that the browser has PepperFlash (Dragon has not; it may or may not have NPAPI-Flash, but not for long), and that it supports the codecs AVC and AAC (Dragon does not).
