Mem issue with Jan 8 Update? [Resolved]

Hi all, I’m really enjoying Comodo firewall and AV software, keep up the good work.

As a gamer, I’ve optimized my services and routinely check my task manager for CPU and Mem usage. Today for some reason cavasm.exe is using about 3x more memory then it did yesterday. I rebooted and it persists. It comes to about 41-42mb of RAM now… which is quite a bit, it’s the same as my Firefox browser posting this.

There was a definition signature update today sometime while I slept according to the log, could that have done something adverse?

Comodo did a major change to their definition files, thus the update was very large. Perhaps that has played a part in it.

However, I notice that you are using version 1.1 of CAVS, which has always had considerable memory usage. If you are interested, you can try the current Beta offering of 2.0.6.12, which has signficant improvements over 1.1; many issues resolved, CPU footprint decreased, and with a safelist-based HIPS included to increase prevention. If you’re interested, it is available here: https://forums.comodo.com/index.php/topic,4731.0.html

Thanks for the tip!

I added the new version and it’s down to 26 MB of memory, still higher but much better. I’m a bit uncomfortable with the broad concept of sending in file-name lists to a 3rd party for verification, but that’s another topic for another post perhaps ???

Looking forward to further memory optimizations - thanks for the help.

Glad that’s an improvement for you! I’ll go ahead and mark this one closed, for others’ benefit.

And, I’ll let you bring up the file submission in another thread… (although just to note, you can turn the whole file submission thing off…)
