I click on “Virtual Kiosk” in CIS 6’s task bar and the virtual kiosk desktop pops up for less than a second and then closes. Attempting to relaunch the kiosk always results in this same behavior, even after terminating any virtkiosk.exe background processes and trying again.
A. THE BUG/ISSUE
- What you did: Tried launching the virtual kiosk through CIS’s main interface.
- What actually happened or you actually saw: Virtual kiosk appears to be loading, then quits before a second can pass while the virtual desktop is present.
- What you expected to happen or see: Virtual kiosk should not close unexpectedly.
- How you tried to fix it & what happened: Terminated all virtkiosk.exe processes and tried starting the kiosk again. No changes occurred.
- If a software compatibility problem have you tried the compatibility fixes (link in format)?: This is not a software compatibility problem. CIS is the only security software I have installed.
- Details & exact version of any software (except CIS) involved (with download link unless malware): N/A
- Whether you can make the problem happen again, and if so precise steps to make it happen: Yes. 1) Make sure virtkiosk.exe is not currently running. If it is, terminate it. 2) Launch the virtual kiosk through any means. [desktop widget or main interface]. 3) Kiosk will fail to load. 4) Terminating the now running virtkiosk.exe process does nothing to change the effects of this bug or the steps to reproduce it.
- Any other information (eg your guess regarding the cause, with reasons): On first launch of the virtual kiosk, I declined the installation of comodo dragon and microsoft silverlight and checked in “Do not ask again.”.

I fixed this by terminating every process that had to do with CIS and then restarting CIS. I’m guessing there was still one last reboot required to enable features and have some of my changes take effect. I just didn’t think to try that before because the main interface of CIS had a big green check mark and a banner saying “Secure” so I assumed everything was up and running as it should.
