MSE doesn’t seem all that great against rogues. One got past it on our Vista machine too but luckily Malwarebytes was able to completely remove it. I think other AV’s do better against those types of threats.
The point is that the antivirus did not do what it was supposed to do. That was Melih’s point all along.
From my own view I guess it’s a kind of fraud to keep on with and rely our protection against malicious files and websites with this quit old technology as solution.
I’ve mentioned the webbrowser in another thread that it should be based on more virtual features.
I think that could be useful in make our systems better armed against all the bad out there.
Imagine reach the web and surfing through a bubble in the cloud, there the “cloud” are basically a virtual reflected image from the real site you visit (or the files you want download) by a mirror. (“DNS servers?”)
This mirror in the other hand are equiped with latest technology in find malicious code.
So by this, end client users do not any longer have to carry the responsibility in make their AV software updated or even worry about if their PC are safe to use or if it might infect other PC’s.
Why being connected directly to the source on Internet when it can be distributed by a “fake” copy as a extra layer of protection both in this I called “cloud” but also with a extra layer of protection for the PC by using a more virtual based webbrowser?
Above could be something in make Internet more safe and protect against new stuff that reach computers from Internet in the long run. We can’t have a open solution as we have today with almost nothing that control what is shared between networks and networks that are connecting other networks online.
Code must be checked before it arrives to another network or someones PC.
So why shall everyone has to become educated in being engineers when only one or just a few could take care of this problem? IT IS CRAZY! and why we are stuck here with all our installed AV’s is only because the industry have found out the nice solution that fit perfectly only for them self.

I believe this is the future of computing. If someday we had internet connections that could upload and download as fast as hard drives could read and write, we would literally install our programs and run everything within a super computer on the internet with each user having their own private virtual computer running Comodo Cloud OS. :a0
We’d all have small ipad-sized consoles that would eliminate the need for big expensive personal computers. This console will not need antivirus/hips/firewall because it would ALL be done in the cloud by Comodo OS.

1) Whether the Silver Light is the best solution is indeed a question at this point
… but I tried a bit of a development stuff and it does look very attractive;

Using cloud Applications is a good idea and I’m sure that will work (excuse me … even if you have to pay a reasonable price, say per hour)

since it is WinDos … unless “they” will do something real in terms of security it does not matter - get your beloved malware from the cloud … What is a difference?
Moreover you will have less controls over FPs (user is in the dark, & may not get legit stuff) & and sure you are doomed without the connection
Should they tell you, well yeah they should. is it good business sense to point out the flaws in one’s product and try to sell it obviously no. No one wants to buy a product that claims well we will kinda protect you and we block some viruses but in a world where people are looking for the quick fix a lazy world where people are too lazy to research or the busy world were people don’t have the time to, i think most people can place themselves in one or the other group, you market for that its the american way make money any way you can whether its a product for losing weight a new thing to pick up the sex drive or internet security, is it the biggest fraud in the security world yeah probably but they are just trying to make a buck but without the dumb lazy or busy person it wouldn’t be an issue because there wouldn’t be a reason to put something out like that so get off your bum and learn something research and make some time to make a educated decision if everyone did that does it even matter what they put on their website
It’s makes me worried that the development of technologies moves faster than the curve for basic knowledge in how to use it. I mean, in get used to stay out of computer related troubles it takes some years of practice.
Ok, nothing wrong with taking a class or learn much of the basic things from early years in school.
But I’m not sure people in general will make any bigger experience of this until they been sitting there with their own computers and collected houndreds of mistakes and thousands hours of daily practice.
So how can people become protected before they reach that point?
When buying a car, you can’t use it until you have a license and been educated in how to use it.
When buying a computer which is so much more powerful in the name of risks the user are taking, both for their own security as well for others well being - Then it’s not necessary with education before using it.
Perhaps it wouldn’t be wrong if every ISP was asked in provide their users with basic knowledge and a certificate that has to be renewed after some years that the user can use when they sign in to Internet.
Something there everyone could be informed and reminded of laws and practical knowhow in how to stay safe. Same certificate could work like a key for approve the user access in many extended ways.
As now, it’s almost impossible to trace who it was that made what when something happens, there’s only one ip number (if having luck). With a personal certificate as identification that has to be used in reach the content at Internet, it would probably bring more pressure on those that dealing with criminal interests or maybe even prevent new recruitment for some bad groups.
hmmm; I put my money on most companies of this protection software arn’t telling the truth. Im sure there already is the technology and innovation to actually protect; and stop all the spying and tracking; like the major seacrh engines etc; all related sites; everyone giving tacit approval everythign they click on; is a trap. After; zonealarm, floated that sales pitch the other day about some zeusZ bot thing or another; I could already tell that the “protection”; wasn’t fucntioning that well with zone alram anyway. How do we know Comodo isnt all hooked up and in bed with all the same big name spying and tracking companies?

Just signed in and therefore a newby from the Netherlands and I can rely to Melih’s article and simply say that when you take the internet highway some tar or other man’s rubber will end up on your soles.
Meaning that it was fun when we were able to log on to arpanet with 56 Kbps. Then when more users entered and found out what the possibilties where, then it got annoying and marketable.
But I use every security-measure available and now and then i see that they work when the “cleaner” pops up.

Yes, I agree Why does it seems wrong to have regulated laws at Internet that protect the users?
I mean, it is popular among all companies these days in protect their software with laws pointing against those who using it and download it from Internet.
The same with everything connected with Windows OS to all software that we can install and use on daily basis. You are basically only allowed in rent this stuff during the time you’re using it and never own it.
User’s only legal right is to “barrow” these things (software, services) and pay for it in many situations or being bound to other “maffia” alike methods of practice were the user doesn’t have any legal rights in appeal anything because non of these companies wants to take responsibility.
The human kind have in this modern age developed a new sport there it is very cool to use legal disclaimers. As more “overstated” they are as better they seems to be a proof for good business management and intellectual professional intelligence and proficiency. Or anyway, that’s what these companies want us to believe. With other words, if being suck in the game you can always hire a good lawyer in make things to seems better than it is. Once again, those which is powerful in money own the game from those who can’t follow.
Should Internet be based on “Money” ?

Should Internet be based on “Buy things” ?
Should Internet be based on “services for transactions” ?
And most important, should it be based on “a lawless ideology” against users in general ?
A country without federal laws which doesn’t regulate all interests are usually something people do not want because it’s a dangerous place were we not protected.
So, why should not Internet be seen as a country for the users ?
Why do we want to still see Internet as a “Toy” and not a “real” thing.
It’s only like this because all these companies want to make money on decent users as long it is possible.
Use your own voice by not using your wallet online, that’s what I started to do myself in change this.

first of all, this topic explains exactly why I chose COMODO,
being the the standard internet user, my greatest concern was and always peace of mind when am on the internet, I came across many security apps and gadgets , had myself familiarized with many of security programs on the internet, I was finally found COMODO, and not until I , why? because of such an article by Melih, I didn’t even know who he was " no disrespect - absolutely- is implied here " :-La, I didn’t know anything about him or what he does, and then finally I really knew him, someone who knows exactly what he’s talking about - and and mark my words, - " Comodo will come to a stage where it will become the google of security , unmatched by any existing software vendors that are present now, and possibly will exist in the future.
Why would I think so?
well??
1- They have identified the issue of concern to everyone, and didn’t just claim they know, they really did, and never forgot that they are users themselves and not just business gurus who want to pocket as much cash as possible without honoring the moral obligation .
2- Smart and Innovative approach such as : full working security apps, for free , and you get what you pay for accordingly, EXPERT support, just pure genius, practical, and impossible to argue against .
of course we also know, the DEFAULT deny tech they introduced, a great reminder that these people are really into what they do and they do it like like no others :-TU
and the list goes on … sandboxing, the list of trusted vendors" fully controlled ", boclean, new hips tech , that really got me going to the point that I told avira , " since Avira and commodo , can’t work well together , like most security apps , only my point is that COMODO address the issue, and avira didn’t even consider looking at it … " so I said it’s either you < or Comodo< and I differently WILL choose comodo , I mentioned avira, because I really liked their program , but they have issues, no forum, no addressing the problems users face , … enough with that, I don’t wana sound ugly, but that is the truth …

Not sure how to answer this question, but have found a new favorite program “BAKU”. Part of an overall system integrity regime. It seems to work real well as long as “NORTON” programs aren’t installed. It cleans out redundant files, and worked well in gaining PCMATIC system review/approval in that area. It didn’t hurt my system when ran without in depth knowledge of root file protocols. I trust this program to routinely clean/sweep my systems.
One thing I’m not clear on is the need for Microsoft .NET (passport?) ver 3.5 installation to install “BAKU”. Installing ver 4.0 was not sufficient for installation of program. I liked it so much, however, that have made it a “MUST HAVE” program for my own system setups. I found it shortly after learning about Comodo, and use both faithfully in my new system configurations for XP. In fact, these are my two programs currently working in my PRIMARY system configuration. I have 4 setups installed at this time and this is the cleanest.
I have noticed one issue, however. I’m having some concern about Comodo booting up after doing a complete system purge from another harddrive, or secondary OS boot. I’ve reinstalled the program (Comodo)a few times to make sure it is operational. Have lost the icon from the system tray, and seemed to have lost Comodo Initialization at least twice. Could have more details with ongoing use, but note this as one issue to keep an eye on.

I just wanna post a comment only re: the quoted remark of yours, since I am not sure that is a “truth”, as you stated
1st, Avira & CIS can work together – there is no questions & any doubts a about it
Tested on XP 32 bit & win 7 x64.
I am using v3 Firewall only, which is in place on both XP & Win 7
Comodo’s v4/v5 where tested as well with Avira as an AV solution – Comodo’s sandbox was definitely disabled.
Avira has the second best detection rate after Emsisoft Anti-Malware for many years in the row and according to many different test results. Comodo’s rate currently cannot come even close to that.
Avira (only once though) was even #1 in one of those tests the difference was kinda 99.98 / 99.99% or something
Then, Avira definitely has a very good support and forum.

All issues are addressed by Avira team, just report them.
FP’s are fixed within several hours basically by both Avira & Emsisoft teams
I do prefer Emsisoft though because the best detection rate/better cleaning (not 100% as we know none of the security can do that and never will).
The EAM Software is more compact, offers additional features and most importantly – currently has the best Behavioural Blocker (BB) component on the market.
If you want - you can use just Mamutu as a separate standalone BB … and again it works fine with Avira as an AV and Comodo Firewall - no issues whatsoever
Basically, it is quite surprising to hear the above comments posted by you regarding Avira.
a side note:
I have to admit that Avira may have a very specific issue related to particular system configurations , where the Guard can all of a sudden become inactive. That happens sometimes , but again usually the issue is under constant control in their forum

and Well? Avira stops comodo’s guard and defence plus , and I am talking full features, because that what interests me, I want the whole of avira and the whole of comodo, if I have to choose, it’s Comodo, and I did that ,
I still recommend avira to those who don’t really know how to respond to a firewall properly ,
Avira had a better HIPS in 9 < not in 10 , and comodo does that better …
I also noticed that COMODO has the best multi layered security of a guard in the internet, but it blocks most threats silently if the autoblocking is selected, avira USED to do that better , and trust me I came across two small apps, that does what avira does, only better and both work fine with comodo, …
I agree about EMISOFT they have a better responding, and a quicker response, but hey, I could use their a-squared, and I never said anything about EMISOFT, so I don’t really know the reason you had to mention it
I have 32-250MB ram xp3 , and they DO NOT WORK together ( I mean comodo , avira ) …
besides, I really woun’t use it anymore, and I woun’t recommend it to anyone using COMODO internet security since the alternative is there …
and configured properly comodo will not need any athor app to fortify it … ,

You mentioned Avira and I just replied that it does work with Comodo (firewall);
It is installed on win 7 x64 as on-demand together with full EAM and I can switch between them being the main AV any time . It never stopped neither Comodo’s Guard nor the Defense+
EAM was mentioned just in the context of the detection rate

let me just say this, the problem exist until today, I participate inm many public forums, and avira free will not work with Comodo, as for their forum, my idea of a forum is interaction, it’s not enough to answer saying , you need to use one of them only, or it’s from comodo’s part where comodo has replied to such issues immediately or that we have tested it, and they worked just fine, or saying you need to remove comodo anti virus, or any of these NON-answers , and until TODAY, avira will stop comodo, at least it will appear to be stopped on the icon on the task bar, I had to exit comodo, and then restart it agin at every reboot,
the problem is not mine alone, everyone I know faces this prob, and that’s exactly what I told avira in the feed back like 100 times, after a year or so, I decided that my peace of mind is got to be considered
and today also I visted avira’s forum, nothing indicates that they even acknowledge the issue , rather than taggle it, oh m I forgot to mention that neither putting comodo on the exclude list , nor asking avira to treat it as safe, or reporting back to avira that it was false positive worked, …
