I can not connect to the internet with my ethernet cable,I was informed that my default is a wireless, and I need a seperate IP address for my ethernet, since wireless was set up first, does this sound right and how do I go about to get a new IP address to use for my ethernet, I was using a belkin router, then went with just a netgear switch ,still no lan connection, i am on a dell optiplex , with windows xp, sp2, my modem is comcast, please help
Normally you should get an IP address automatically and your ehternet connection would then get a different IP address.
Please make sure that the Ethernet connection is working. First check at the back of your computer if you see one or two lights at the connector. Then check in Device Manager that your Ethernet connector is working.
