How long do you use COMODO AV?

I have been using it since CIS v3.5. Being light was an important reason because I was running a heavy OS, Vista, on older hardware. I never looked back.

I agree 100%! By itself in its entirety is the only “security” system you will need. I use CIS and Malwarebytes together for the reason why I believe it is a “Web security” service. But otherwise CIS is all I or you or anyone will ever need.

I use CIS with the AV because IMHO its faster to have the entire thing load up rather then Firewall and a separate AV. BUT it DOESN’T matter WHICH AV you have even AVG or Immunet because what slips by those gets captured by Comodo’s D+ or Sandbox (Same goes with what isn’t in Comodo’s anti virus sigs). So your safe no matter what. Go Comodo!!! Keeping us safe no matter what we use as our AV. :-TU

I’ve been using CIS since July 2010.
After being hit hard while using a paid AV/firewall suite, I decided to get serious and
start using HIPS.
I decided on Comodo because it was available in 64bit…and it was free.
I will never pay for security again.

I find CAV weak in detection. Yesterday I scanned my cousins pendrive with CAV & it found 31 malwares. Scan with Malwarebytes found 304 malwares & I was shocked. So I again scanned with CAV with Cloud & Rootkit scan enabled & it found the same 31 malwares. So I downloaded Avast & it found 301 malwares. Then I downloaded MSE 2 & it too found lots fo malwares & I removed the malwares with MSE 2. I again checked with Malwarebytes & this time Malwarebytes didn’t found anything. I must say MSE 2 has improved a lot & getting better.

Melih is right!! CAV i.e Comodo Antivirus in CIS is for Usability & it really seems so. But it would be good if it works as a full blown AV rather than Usability thing. I myself find less improvement in CAV compared to other components of CIS i.e D+ & SB.

CAV has “bad” detection but what happens when you try to execute any of those samples? you will find that is has the best prevention than any AV has to offer unless the computer is already infected in which case you cannot trust it anymore. But if it had Comodo right from the starts, you would not have any infections to begin with.

I hardly think that there are any trusted or whitlisted malware. bBt if there are, it is rare and quickly fixed and I would assume that you are still more protected than just using traditional antivirus.

For the record most of these being reported are in a gray area. They are mostly adware and the like.

I know that no Anti-malware Product is perfect, but I had some malware 100%/Completely bypass CIS 5-something fully updated and set to its highest settings almost, before; my system was clean before, but this particular sneaky malware got past CIS and Windows Defender, among others.

So far CIS has done pretty good, but there have been a few things that got by it, one of which was a pretty nasty infection.

And yes, I reported it and it should not be detected.

I am sure that CIS will continue to improve.

The infection was hidden in an unofficial update patch for Fallout New Vegas, and was over 100mb, so I could not submit it to VirusTotal, but I did upload it to Megaupload and e-mailed it to about 20 Anti-malware companies, including Comodo.

If you would like a URL, just let me know how to send it, I am not in the Malware Research Group and I know that we can not post URLs to known malware, so let me know how to share it with you.

If I am not mistaken, Comodo has already reviewed it and it is now detected by CIS and CCE.

But if you are curious, then you are free to test it yourself, I think that I have the correct file, but I could be wrong; it was a torrent and I went to try to find the correct one, and I think I found the correct one but I could be wrong, either way, I uploaded it to MegaUpload or whatever so that the Anti-malware companies could test it and add it to their databases.

I alerted Many companies about it.

But this was about a month or so ago, so it is now old news.

Back then Avast, Hitman Pro, Microsoft Security Essentials, and about 20 other companies on VirusTotal were able to detect some parts of the infection, but back then Comodo & Immunet & ClamAV detected Zero/0 of the threats.

But that is no longer a problem for Comodo.

Okay, back then MSE and Avast said that part of the infection was an Alureon variant.

Hitman Pro found a Bootkit, back then.

Malwarebytes found some things, and Norton Power Eraser found a file, back then.

Emsisoft Anti-malware, and several other on demand scanners found a file or two also, back then.

Some White Smoke Translator tried to install as well, so that was hidden in there somewhere too.

The whole infection possibly contained at least one bootkit, rootkit, trojan, and virus.

And scanning it with several on demand scanners before opening it failed to detect it, back then, so it must have been pretty sneaky back then.

It was a good testing opportunity for me, since I got to test many free products to see what they found during all of this and I learned a few things and upgraded my layered defense strategy.

But it did damage my system, but it is still working good enough for now, thanks to Avast especially; I still need to re-install Windows and/or re-format my drive one day.

Anyway, I am sending you a PM with the link to what I Think was the correct file.

Sorry, but the topic here is How long do you use Comodo AV? I just want the folk to share their experience of everyday usage of the Comodo Antivirus, not its testing. So if you have any experience of long term CAV usage, please say it.
