Here is the Beta version of CPF 2.3 :-) [closed]

It seems that I found the reason of this:

I start Windows and eMule, and everything works fine.
If I test CPF on Shields UP! and Sygate Online, than CPF change to emergency mode.
After this I can’t get High ID again on eMule. Only after restart the Windows…
So, it seems that after the emergency mode, CPF doesn’t care about other rules…

Emergency mode: 120 seconds.
This is the log when I try to connect eMule, after 10 minutes:

 No it doesnt for some time.

I know, but after the emergency time, it should care about the rules, and it doesn’t, so something is worng with the Network Monitor…

What are your network monitor rules?

Ok so according to your rules, CPF only blocks incoming ICMP messages. Can you activate “Create an alert when this rule is fired” option for all network monitor rules so that we can see wats going on?

Here you have it: cpf.html

According to these logs, Emergency mode has nothing to do with your Emule ID. In such a case, does restarting eMule help? Or if you set allow all, could you get high id?

I have a workstation running Windows server 2003. CPF 2.2 runs fine on it. I installed the CPF 2.3 beta and none of the protection components will start. I get the error message that reinstalling it may fix it when it starts. I have uninstalled and reinstalled with the same results. I do like the new installer.

Restart eMule doesn’t help.
I only get High ID, if I disable the Network Monitor or if I restart the Windows.

I will try to put Allow in all the rules, but only at night I can do that…

Any ideas why it can slow down network games? Next to the firewall i have too much lag at games like Shattered galaxy. I’ve specified a rule for the game’s SG.EXE. Besides, even by useing OSMode 3 (had reboot, no other firewalls :)) the computer at home is still very slow.

Another:
I just don’t know why there’s no checkbox as a “Don’t ask it again”.

Just to make sure there wasn’t some other conflict, I installed the beta on another Windows 2003 machine with the same results. None of the protection components can be activated. I uninstalled and went back to the current stable version and it works fine. I was hoping to test the beta.

These machines are not being used as servers. I use Win 2003 because I have the licenses and it is much more resource friendly for me, than WIndows XP.

In the new issue of PC magazine, Comodo is the editors choice for best firewall. This might get a lot more people using it. ;D

Today at night is working fine…

I will try again later…

Vampiric what emule are you using? Maybe it has to do with your emule mod. As I have mentioned on other topics I never had a problem with low id

Pandlouk,

I’m using eMule 0.47a MorphXT 8.13 Beta 7, and in OS Mode = 3…

Very strange that now this doesn’t happen, but if happened again, I will report…

I earlier reported crashes with the Cisco VPN with the beta. I tested 2.2.0.11 today, and had the similar crashes. I had no problems with the previous version (mid May release). So far the problems have only appeared on the Thinkpad X40. I have had no problems on the Dell D600.

I really wonder which firewall is faster - besides it’s safe - next to online games as it seems comodo is, well, makes too much lag. It is a very important point that comodo must produce less lag as there are too many online gamer on the Internet who’d rather use another firewall if this won’t be faster. When you wanna compare, you’ll fail at speed.

Q: is there a way to set up the popups to come out on top of any other windows to click on allow/deny? I had 2 cases where i didn’t see - programs were video-bugy a bit and i couldn’t see the popups - them and i wasn’t able to solve the problem too easily. I know that programmers should write better applications but the user will be jammed with these.

You dont see any driver name in the BSOD do you? If you can provide us a Windows memory dump that is generated while the computer is crsahed, we can see the problem immediately.

thanks,
Egemen

Good news. I did some additional checking. The problem with 2.2.0.11 was caused
by the built-in Cisco firewall. I normally have it off, but it was on after I had rebuilt the Thinkpad system (caused by a Windows Restore failure). Now we did have the beta fail with a configuration of the VPN that had worked for the May release. of the firewall.

I don’t know if you only need to turn the firewall off (VPN option) or to truely disable it. I generally do the latter by removing (renamed them) vsdata.dll and vsdatant.sys in windows\system32. The Cisco firewall is build from Zonealarm components. That VPN is a problem for most firewalls - even for Zonealarm’s first releases of version 6.

Hi Bob,

Now it sounds perfectly OK. 99% of the time, if 2 personal firewalls are installed at the same time, one of them will not work.

Thank you for this valuable feedback.
