100% CPU usage Cannot run virus removal in safe mode
Hi, Thanks for your time.

I am running XP SP3 on 1.86 Ghz Laptop 2.49 RAM. using CIS as AV

OS boots to desktop very very slowly but then grinds to a halt. Task manager opens in 2 minutes; 50-60 processes running at 100% CPU. mscofig.sys will not allo changes.
Realistically no other programmes will open (in Earth time)

Safe mode w/network allowed download and execution of MBAM but will not allow stopzilla to run - freezes on “collecting information”. superadblocker will also not run and returns an “administrator has blocked” message. Comodo [previosly installed] also stalls on the 5% download level when tasked to update virus library.

Layman, TYVM for the info;

:cry: I don’t believe it!!! Why wasn’t this fault put straight onto the front of every COMODO web page. gnarl snash. This is the worst malware attack, in time, money, or frustration, I have ever experienced and it was done by my AV software. Un 'king believable. :o

Do you know if this update will affect my other PCs as they handshake with comodo?

If you go through the thread it was stated by Comodo that it was a ‘human error’ and they assured that nothing of the sort will repeat again and they have strengthened their internal processes. If your case is also the same, you may please follow the instructions given in the first post.

That problem was with a particular DB update, which was corrected by the developers immediately (next day). But thousands of computers were updated by then and those who had updated had no go but to follow those instructions as even system restore would not fix it.

New installations are no more affected by it. You can either go for clean install or follow the ‘safe mode’ route, which in my opinion is better as the first download of AV update is really huge (around 100 Mb) stalling the AV update status at 30% due to which user may get confused whether it is still working or not.

Can you run TaskManager → Process tab to see which process uses 100% CPU?
