Hi, today I wanted to ask a question about Comodo Cleaning Essentials and at the end of the conversation a ‘security expert’ has suggested me PAID version of Comodo because free version wouldn’t clean the virus completely. I have look at this website: Free Antivirus Cleaner 2021 | Download Free Virus Cleaner App to compare paid and free antivirus, and it doesn’t say that free version will only partially clean the virus.

I don’t really think that paid version will clean the virus completely and free won’t, because as far as I know they use the same engine and virus database. This is ridiculous that they lie to persuade you to buy Comodo products.

No, that is not true. In fact CIS is not specifically designed to remove viruses.

It’s to compensate for this that CCE was created in the first place. The cleaning, and protection, capabilities of both the free version of CIS and the paid versions are the same. The only difference is the services that come with it.

I do know that with the paid version you can have Comodo experts configure your computer and remove viruses for you. However, that’s not part of CIS and I’m pretty sure that you get the exact same thing with the trial version of GeekBuddy.

I’m not sure what Samuel was trying to say, but unless someone provides me with evidence to the contrary I will continue to believe that he was trying to almost trick you into buying the paid version of CIS, which wouldn’t help any more than the free version.

When I saw what he wrote I was extremely surprised and shocked, I believe that there an explanation for this.

I have also read few days ago on polish forum that someone has also been persuaded to buy paid version. A person asked a GeekBuddy for help (about cleaning his PC from malware I think) but it was rejected because he didn’t have paid version. I think that someone was explaining this story here on Comodo forum in polish section.

Samuel specifically mentioned CIS Pro & CIS Complete and both of those do come with virus/malware cleaning/removal… remote cleaning/removal that is, by humans not software. I believe the actual CIS software would be the same (except for the TrustConnect functionality in CIS Complete).

Bases for CCE are downloaded automatically when you open CCE.exe.
And bases.cav ARE NOT in CCE folder, database file is in one of the user’s folder. So you can’t say from bases.cav size in CCE folder whether it is updated or not.

You were checking for the program updates, not database update (Tools>Check for updates).

That’s why I was asking if it’s using antivirus database. I was generally asking about Killswitch and not CCE.exe.

Well, I downloaded CCE, looked at /scanners/bases.cav file and the size was 9,317KB. Then I went to CCE.exe → Tools → Import Virus Database → I have selected bases.cav which was downloaded from the internet and right after that I have looked at scanners/bases.cav file but now the size was 122,434KB.

Anyway, this topic isn’t about this question: ‘Hi, does killswitch use antivirus database to detect malware processes? If YES does it mean that I have to update antivirus database?’

It is about how geek buddies are lying and persuading people to buy Comodo products.

Exactly…

Even if he mentioned about ‘geekbuddy’ help, please bare in mind that it is still available in free package for 60 days.

In my opinion, experts like Samuel should be punished somehow by Comodo team, unless they are told to lie and persuade people to buy the product in this kind of way which obviously wouldn’t be nice.

Well then, from this post what you were trying to tell us? What does ‘fixing your PC’ mean then. If it means anything except cleaning/fixing your PC from malware then this should be written in bold in my opinion.

Fair enough, although I think that this should be listed somewhere in bold if it’s not yet.

So what do you think about Samuel’s action, was he trying to trick/lie me to buy full paid version of Comodo?
Do you agree with his statements regards the free version:
‘It won’t clean all kind of virus’ and ‘Please be informed that free version doesn’t remove the virus completely’ ?

its a misunderstanding…

he thought you couldn’t clean your computer and have CIS on it…so was recommending to upgrade cos you get a human expert.

we constantly review what they say and i willl pass this on to relevant guys.

Well, just hope it will not happen again. He should be more precise next time and ask more questions to avoid misunderstanding; for example explaining the thing about geekbuddy and so on.

Anyway, lets hope that any similar misunderstanding won’t happen to anyone because someone might understand it differently and take it as a fraud or something.

Nowadays I have observed while testing CAV that sometimes it gives the window for a threat that Not all malware can be removed need help geekbuddy. Previously I never got such window but with last 1-2 versions of CIS this window appears sometimes.

I dont know whats going on with CAV but I do wanna know this window was never there in any version of CIS but from last 1-2 versions why this appears at times??

I think I know what you mean. After installing CAV or CIS, when a malware is detected then a screen comes up saying that malware was detected and you can geekbuddy so that he/she can fix it for you, something like that. However there is a little CHECK BOX at the left bottom, so if you check this box you won’t get any of these messages any more. Is that what you mean or not really?
