Hardware firewall detects an intrusion attack

I recently set my router hardware firewall to email me when an intrusion attack happened. Prior to that this option was unchecked.

Will this mean that an attack has succeeded in some way or just that I am being alerted to the fact that the attempt happened?

Your guess is as good as mine. IOW - “router hardware firewall” is absolutely insufficient info to get any answer about particular functionality. Consult the supplied manual.
