so is the virus part good now?
Yep.
Josh
without prejudice?
it depends on what your definition of ‘good’ is…
I checked and I don’t use proxy. Besides
Problem still occurs, so I’m afraid this is something in firewall of our company. So I think it would be good to leave as well old method of updating AV and let the user decide, which method to use.
Anyway thanks for your time.
EDIT:
I forgot to add, that CIS update works with no problems. My system is Vista Home Premium 32bit and i have no other firewall or antivirus.
EDIT2:
On the other computer in our company everything works ok, so it must be something on my computer and I’ll have to fight it on my own. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for your time!

i agree. because everything is relative! but i want to hear an unbiased opinion. now i can try it. sure. but if someone that already has says they are very happy with it it just makes it easier.
Do you still can’t update it? I updated to latest version and still can. I’m just still mad >:-D , 'cos Defense+ in Safe Mode still acts like its in Paranoid Mode.
I guess it is one to it’s own, uh? 88)
yes. it even updates itself
New member - I’ve been using comodo for a few weeks. Was running fine until last nights update. Now I’m getting the same update error as the other person. “failed to update - check your internet connection”. Last update 11/18.
I wouldn’t have even realized there was a problem until Windows Security Alert starting firing off that my antivirus is out of date.
Under Security Center > Malware Detection > Comodo Antivirus Reports that it may be out of date. Comodo Antivirus has not provided Security Center with a program to fix this issue.
It gives me the option to turn off monitoring (not recommended)
No proxy settings in IE. IE does keep crashing all day though. lol more than usual.
something aint rite! love the software though. hope i don’t have to R&R it, but if it doesn’t update tommorow, i guess i’ll have to.
i’ll check this thread tommorow. appreciate it
When IE is constantly crashing I would suggest to check for malware. Let your AV check your system as well as the following spyware scanners:
Malwarebytes antimalware
Supter Antispyware
Spybot Search and Destroy
Trial version of Spy Sweeper.
That should be enough I hope.
no viruses or spyware. still can’t update the av. since the update the other night commodo has been acting really boinky like it forgot all it’s settings.
is there any way to set it to default setting to see if that cures the problem? i hate to R&R it and have it leave ■■■■ behind that won’t resolve the issue.
what a mess lol
appreciate it
If it’s relevant to any of these 3 threads, please post full details, Thanks.

I might merge them and PM the authors.

thx i replied on av thread 1 here:
been troubleshooting my cell phone also, so i just did a system restore back to 11/17 and all is well. it took the 11/21 update today fine. actually it said there were updates twice today. i let it do it’s thing.
come to think of it i haven’t rebooted since the 2nd update. hope it’s ok in the morning lol
thx for a great product. usually not buggy and it certainly gives you warning when it is, so you don’t surf thinking you are protected when it’s hinky. maybe it was protected?
either way i trust it and that’s the main thing. was hosed on my old laptop by symantec missing a common virus IN it’s database after plenty of opportunities I gave it to precheck the file.
tried eset security and wasn’t impressed.
commodo is a very nice program. keep up the good work.
So far so good. At least with regards to the firewall. I haven’t installed CAV.
ok i uninstalled it after it crapped out again on update and windows defender kept warning me. back to .424 on x64
.424 is working fine.
I followed a suggestion of Misplace Childhood on the Antivirus Bugs thread, which allowed CIS version .432 to update virus signatures automatically or manually.
After installing CIS .432 and rebooting, I went to Control Panel → Administrative Tools → Services and changed the Comodo Internet Security Helper Service to my login account. When editing the service, I didn’t find anything named Start Session. Iin Properties for the CIS Helper Service there were four tabs, one of which was labeled Log On. I went to this tab and had the option to change from Local System Account to This Account, which I had to browse for to locate. After rebooting, CIS version .432 was able to manually update virus definitions from 547 all the way up to the current 607. Thank you for your input to solve this problem.
I have another computer configured exactly like the one I was having the CIS .432 virus definition update problem on. It updates the virus definitions just fine and the CIS Helper Service is set to the Local System Account, which must be the default setting. This problem seems to affect some, but not all, Vista computers. Something has to be going on with CIS .432 that causes some CIS Helper Services to have to be changed to the login account, while others update virus definitions just fine with the CIS Helper Services set to Local System Account. Maybe the devs can determine what in CIS .432 is causing this, because this problem did not exist in CIS .424 or .427.
Program updater worked fine. Didn’t noticed any memory/resource issue.
CIS .432 running like a charm for a week. (:NRD)
Thank’s for this new ver.
CAN THIS BE OF HELP
Since the 22 nd of this month the Anti Virus section of CIS version 3.5.55810.432 has stopped updating. The same error problem that others are experiencing - failed to update. At the moment I’m sitting with Virus Signature Database Version 590.
Before I was running the Comodo firewall and CAV programs separately and all work fine in this department. Did an undelete of both and installed CIS version 3.5 as stated above. Have also reinstalled it.
Laptop - Compaq Presario C700
OS - Vista Basic Home Edition - 32 bit (with SP1)
Running CIS and Windows Defender only
When I checked out
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Software\Comodo\Firewall Pro\Configurations\0\AV\Settings
to see if “UpdatePath” and “UpdateURL” contained “av/updates” and “http://download.comodo.com/” respectively.
I found the following
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Software\Comodo\Firewall Pro\Configurations\0
the rest, namely \AV\Settings was missing.
Does this give any meaningful clue?
Can we not add in what is missing here?
(found this image in one of the sister threads.
Then there is the other problem of mcbuilder.exe running at 100% of CPU time - but I will
come back to that one later when the current crises is over.
I have carried out the change suggested by larlyles and have found that the manual
update works as I am now on Virus Signature Database Version 619.
However, the files waiting for your review in the “Proactive Defense” section are not being
submitted to Comodo for checking.
Checking regedit for the following key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Software\Comodo\Firewall Pro\Configurations\0\AV\Settings
it is all there now.
Question what to we have to tweak to get the Proactive Defense section working?
Any ideas?
Donavan,
When you say that the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Software\Comodo\Firewall Pro\Configurations\0 was truncated and every thing else was missing, do you mean that all the subkeys under 0 were missing and, under Configurations, registry keys 1, 2, and 3, plus all the subkeys under them? If all these aforementioned keys and subkeys were missing, that is too many registry keys to even consider entering manually. For example, just under Configurations\0\File Groups there are subkeys 0, 1, 10, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 with subkeys under each of them, with subkeys under them. Also under 0 there are four other subkeys: AV, Firewall, HIPS, and Settings. Also under Configurations, the other subkeys 1, 2, 3 have the same five subkeys - AV, File Groups, Firewall, HIPS, and Settings, and they all have the same subkeys under them, with subkeys under them. Thus it becomes virtually impossible to enter all these registry keys, and the data values in each key, manually.
The only way that you would be able to manually enter the registry keys and data values would be if the only missing registry keys were the subkeys Profiles, Schedules, and Settings, directly under AV under 0 under Configurations. All the other subkeys under Configurations\0 - File Groups, Firewall, HIPS, and Settings, plus all their subkeys, and all their subkeys would have to be there already. All the other subkeys under Configurations - 1, 2, and 3 and their subkeys, and their subkeys and the data values in each key would have to be there already also.
It sounds like, based on what you are saying, that some installations of CIS version .432 fail to install all the necessary registry keys, subkeys and their data values, and this is what causes the automatic or manual updates of the virus definitions to fail when the CIS Helper Service is set to Local System account. Then, if I understand your evaluation correctly, after changing the CIS Helper Service to the Login Account (This account) and rebooting, all the registry keys, subkeys, and data values were in the registry and were no longer missing. In other words, the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Software\Comodo\Firewall Pro\Configurations\0, 1, 2, 3 and all their subkeys, and their subkeys, plus Firewall Pro\Options were all there.
If reading this has given you a headache, I assure you that writing it did the same thing for me.
Donavan,
I also wanted to comment on the issue you brought up about mcbuilder.exe using too much CPU resources. I was having this problem where mcbuilder was using 100% of one core of a dual-core Intel E6600 processor. I uninstalled Comodo Memory Firewall and mcbuilder.exe didn’t even show up in the running processes list after that. I have subsequently reinstalled CMF and not had any more real severe issues with mcbuilder.exe hogging CPU resources to the extent it was before. The mc in mcbuilder stands for memory cache, so I think that this particular process is tied in to CMF, rather than CIS.
