Full Removal of Comodo Firewall Pro 3 with SafeSurf Toolbar (If Regular Uninstall Method Fails)

Hi,

So basically I’m having trouble running Comodo, which is why I’m trying to uninstall. Everytime I boot it tells me it can’t run the right file, which is annoying as hell. The 3rd party uninstaller you recommended did not work for me, giving me the following message

Your Uninstaller 2008
This application has failed to start because framework.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

When using the regular unistaller through Control Panel and/or the original install file
Windows Explorer
cfpconfg.exe has stopped working

How would I go about uninstall it first so that I can clean it from the Registry? Thank you so much.

Hi,

Just wanted to mention.

I’m running windows vista ultimate x64 SP1 and I tried comodo before and wasn’t keen on it so removed it, (all the XP machines I administrate either use no firewall (domain policy) Sophos firewall (roaming domain connections) or Zonealarm free (cos its easy for the non technicals in the family)

Anywhom I decided to install the new version of comodo and and I still didn’t like it, couldn’t get my limewire to function to my satisfaction and the system and connection as whole seemed slower by far.

Anyways when I removed it it left loads of ■■■■ behind which i manage to get rid of, but nothing would get rid of the miniport entries in device manager and the registry. Windows would moan the registry entry was corrupt and not allow them to be removed manually and trying to get at them in the registry gave me an access denied error. Wouldn’t even let me change the ACL or owner of the objects.

So i did some playing and I came up with a solution that worked for me.

Rebooted into safe mode and logged in as administrator.

Opened device manager

Selected each comodo miniport in turn and selected update driver

Selected choose driver to install and show drivers on system

Then assigned a driver my system didn’t use.

For two of the miniports (my default network adapter and ipv6 shadows i believe) i used the microsoft network monitor driver

the system complained the service wasnt running for this driver but allowed me to continue and they appeared in the networks list as microsoft network monitor and microsoft network monitor #2 or similar

these devices could then be removed from the system.

the remaining two miniports would not use this driver (i think because i specified remove driver software on uninstall)

so i chose two random drivers (samsung and acer adapters) and followed the same procedure

for each driver i assigned the system warned this driver might not be suitable and i continued anyway.

Cannot guarantee this will work for everyone but it did for me

regedit now finds nothing when searching for comodo (I used the above specified method first to get rid of anything else lingering - this is purely for the miniports which may lurk still)

I PROVIDE NO GUARANTEES ON THIS INFORMATION - USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK

I make regular images of my system drive using PING (instead of relying on system restore) and i would suggest anyone else did

I found that there is a copy of framework.dll in a subfolder of comodo firewall in program files called eithe repair or restore (i forget which). I copied the entire contents of this folder into the comodo firewall root folder and overwrote where necessary and then ran unistall again and it worked for me. Then i ran the cleaning utility here and did the miniport method i described above because they were still lurking on my system.

I’m really disappointed with this software in terms of ease of use, user friendliness, system compliance and general compatibility.

I think the development team could do with an 101 on the concept of internal BETA/ALPHA testing and change control

Ok… so like everyone else, I installed, uninstalled, and now Windows Security Center still sees COMODO as installed and still “on”. I cant turn it off from here either. Anyway, the point is, I see there seems to be some trouble completely uninstalling COMODO. But… since I already uninstalled COMODO, is Windows just misreading it as being installed? I mean, can I install another firewall, and have these remnants of COMODO NOT interfere with the new firewall. So, even though Windows reads 2 firewalls installed, there really is only one, and Windows would just be reading a shadow of the previous COMODO firewall.

Windows Vista SP1
COMODO CFP_Setup_3.0.25.378_XP_Vista_x32

Did I make sense?
i.e. Can I just leave well enough alone? Or do I actually have to hunt down these scaps of COMODO in order for my new firewall to work.

And for the record, I came from Zone Alarm and I loved the fact I could allow individual programs to access the internet. I had total control over what could access the internet, in and out. Its easy to deny a program, and then allow it when I have time and I want to check for upgrades etc. (ie easily reversible). I like this, because I have dialup, and I didnt want a bunch of annoying software upgrades taking up bandwidth.

Thanks so much in advance. I must also state, that these forums and the tech help here… seems second to none. I think I might return one day when I have an interface I prefer.

the main part of this thread gives steps and a file for removing left over keys. if you don’t want to scroll back you can try this and see if it works for you. make sure you disable internet conection dew this threw windows in your internet connection area thin follow steps below and see if it works for you. not sure if it dose on vista but worth a try.

a. At the command line of Windows XP [Start > Run] enter the command "CMD" (without the quotes) and press Enter.
b. At the new Command Prompt window, type
"NET STOP WINMGMT /Y" (without the quotes; there must be a space between WINMGMT and /Y) and press Enter. Then type "exit" end press Enter again.
c. Go to the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem and delete the folder "Repository".
d. Reboot. The Repository folder will be recreated automatically by the Security Center and will now display the correct information.

Thanks for your reply, but my question was more along the lines of “can I just leave it as it is”. From experience… mucking around with the registry rarely does you any good. Even though Windows Vista thinks COMODO is still installed (as seen via the Windows Security Center), I know I uninstalled it. Is it alright to just leave this alone, just as it is??

Thanks

Your not mucking around with the registry when you have specific instructions on what to remove. When you start deleting things that you have no idea what your deleting thats when there are problems. If you want a clean running pc its best to do what is needed to keep it running that way. Leaving stray files can cause other programs that you try to install not to work properly.

The Question posed is about Vista, not XP.

Has anyone come up with a solution to remove Comodo D+ from Vista? This has been a thorn in my side for some time now with no help from Comodo OR this forum.

Hell to all,

It applies to win xp proffesional

Here is a very very simple methde of restoring your registries back to state before the installation of comodo firewall.

it has only one drawback that you have to backup your registry using ntbackup in xp before installinf comodo.

Exact procedure is
Before installing Comodo

  1. disconnect your computer from network

  2. Disable your Av ( Including the self protection ) If possible go to services.msc stop the AV services.

  3. start ntbackup select system state and C:\documents and settings\user\ntuser.dat ( do this for all your users) as the file to be backup.

start the backup.

  1. uninstall the comodo in the usual standard method either by add/remove program your comodo> uninstall.

reboot

now in this step we will restore the registry to original state before installing comodo.

  1. disable your AV (if possible stop the services also)

start nt backup restore the previous two files whose bacips were made. In ntbackup click tool option > replace file even if present

start reboot

you will find your registries are exactly in same stae before the comodo was installed, Infact you can do this for any program

This methode works 100 % always

Regards to all

So I’m on Vista64 and tried all the options on this forum to kill this Zonealarm clone and cannot completley remove it.

A something from this firewall is left and blocking any attempts to share files on my network if I uninstall the firewall, its fine if I reinstall it and then disable it with it still installed

So whats left windows reinstall to remove this ZA clone?

Hello USSS:

I have tried your batch file for novice people, but access was denied when the line NET STOP WINMGMT /Y was to be executed eventhough I would have been using my administration account. Before that, I followed the suggestion from Panlouk to download the zip file which included “clicapi.dll” and “fwconfig.exe”, but when I was using the command line to execute the fwconfig.exe file, there was an error message to asking me to log in as administration account, which I would already have been there. Is my administration account not fully active? Please help. Thanks.

Best regards,
Loc Le :THNK

Are you using Windows Vista? If yes, you’ll need to run it as an administrator (see http://vistasupport.mvps.org/run_as_administrator.htm).

Yes, I am using Windows Vista, and I did log in as an Administrator. For some reasons, the system might not have recognized it. Do you know how to fix it? Thanks. :frowning:

Have you tried right clicking on it, run as administrator ?

Xan

:THNK No, I loged-in directly to my Administrator account before running the batch file. It was something wrong with my Administration account because it would not have been granted a full access as an administrator. Do you know how to fix it? Thanks. :frowning:

I do not have Comodo listed in the file to uninstall it. I could not run the repair program inthe program files. Windows tells me that Comodo is working as the only firewall but I can not set up a network. Do I have to reinstall windows/

There should be a shortcut to the (un)installer in the Start menu. Is it there?

Off Topic !ot!

Hi everyone:

Sorry for the extended absence, as I have been dealing with something called Hurricane Ike here in Houston since before its landfall early on the morning of Sept. 13. I was without power for 16 days, but things are slowly getting back to normal here, one day at a time.

Ragwing, Vettetech and others: Thanks to each of you for responding on my behalf to some of the recent posters. I appreciate it!

I will never take cold ■■■■, air conditioning – or clean underwear – for granted ever again.

Regards.

Sorry about the ordeal you had to go thru.

Good to hear that your are safe USSS!

Even as an administrator on Vista, some things will be blocked due to User Account Control (UAC). You’ll need to launch it by doing as described in this guide:
Run As Administrator (it’s only 5 steps, so don’t panic ;))

Anyway, if it was only the NET STOP WINMGMT /Y-command that didn’t work, it’s not necessary to run the file, unless CFP still shows up in Security Center.

There is NO reason to reinstall Windows.
If the normal uninstallation process doesn’t work, download, extract and run this file on an administrator account:
