FTP problem with Dreamweaver

I’m having trouble getting my site uploaded on to the server when I have Comodo running but when I turn Comodo off it works.

I’ve chose to allow Dreamweaver to connect to the Internet. Any ideas on why it isn’t working while Comodo is running?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Socratis

Have you defined Dreamweaver as a trusted application?.
Remember, FTP works via port 21 TCP/IP, by default - So make sure it’s open.

To know if it’s the former or the latter, try any FTP client and if you can indeed connect to your server, it means you should focus on giving Dreamweaver access to this port both in and outbound.

That’s all I can think of. I’m not a Comodo expert, I just moved to this firewall but its all the same in general.

Remember as well that CFP has a layered security, between its various monitors. For an application to be able to connect, not only must it be Allowed in Application Monitor, but in Network Monitor there must not be any rules which would block the necessary traffic.

In AppMon, Inbound traffic refers to the application being able to accept/receive Inbound connections.

In NetMon, Inbound traffic refers to unsolicited inbound connections (needed for p2p, IM clients, server applications).

If your FTP connect is going Outbound, you probably want to make sure you’re not defining Ports on your Outbound NetMon rules, which would limit the FTP port requirements.

Thanks guys.

I have Dreamweaver as a trusted site but don’t know if there are any rules i should make in the Net Monitor.

I’m not very familiar with this stuff. My brother set it up when I was using GoLive but now Dreamweaver is giving me fits.

Are there any rules I should try? or anything else?

We’ll probably need to dig into the logs a bit, to determine exactly how DreamWeaver is working. If you will do the following:

Open Activity/Logs. Right-click an entry and select “Clear all logs.”

Now try to connect to your FTP site to upload, as you do normally. When it fails, go back to Activity/Logs, right-click and select “Export to HTML.” Save the file and reopen it (it will open in your browser).

Go to the very bottom and highlight six entries from the bottom upward. Right-click and Copy.

Start a new post here, right-click and Paste. This will get the log entries into your post as text, in the same layout as in the logfile (critical for easy-reading).

If your external IP address shows in those log entries (it will match the IP showing in the lower right corner of your posts here), you may mask it with “x” for privacy.

Then we’ll go thru and see what is being blocked. I am confident that something is blocked, because you say that if you disable CFP, your upload works fine. So we’ll see what’s what…

ok so i was getting ready to do what you told me to do. i cleared all logs and then started dreamweaver and for the first time it said dreamweaver was trying to act like a server or whatever so i allowed it and it works now.

does that make sense? im just surprised this is the first time i was asked that.

im confused. so if its working now, it should keep working right?

also, thanks for your help. i really needed it.

Aw, shucks; now I won’t get to dissect your logs. I don’t know why you wouldn’t have seen the “act like a server” alert before; it does not surprise me that you’d get one.

Basically it just means that DreamWeaver is prepared/preparing to create/establish a connection to the internet. If you use a browser like Firefox, you may see a similar alert. It’s not immediately a cause for concern, since you are expecting the application to connect.

You might have gotten the alert before, and missed it. If you haven’t rebooted since, it would stay in resident memory until then.

Keep watching to make sure the connectivity holds true. If it stays good for DreamWeaver, then we’ll close it up; just let me know.

hopefully it keeps working but if for some reason it doesnt, you can dissect the hell out of it

ill keep an eye on it.

thanks again for your help.
