Free Antivirus for Windows 2000 Pro

Hi

Can anyone recommend a free antivirus product for Windows 2000 Pro? (spec: Laptop, 1.6ghz, 256mb). Free as in, free for Charities. I’ve checked Avast, Avira and AVG’s sites but their “free” license doesn’t cover charities (although it’s at a reduced rate).

We currenlty use VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i on our workstations but I feel (memory wize), McAfee will use up too much memory and slow these laptops to a crawl :'(.

Edit: Btw, these laptops will be standalone so being able to download updates manually and install is important.

Darn good question. The only thing that comes to mind is to use the open source ClamAV. Which doesn’t have brilliant detection rates. It can be used by Spyware Terminator. I don’t know the license situation of the latter.

Hi EricJH

Thanks for your reply :). Luckily, we found some unused memory which allowed us to bump up the memory on these laptops to 512mb. So we are now using XP and McAfee :). Still, it’s a shame there isn’t any free antivirus for 2000 but understandable why (due to not being supported anymore).
