I have given up on it for now. I went back to AVG. I just can’t keep using a broken AV. I’m using the Comodo firewall though. Maybe someday I’ll give the AV another try and see if it’s fixed. :-\

Sure, me and a few people I found in different german forums. Seems the Av component is not used very often in Germany.
But this is really not a problem of a few single users.
5448 now, the download works perfect and fast, processing after the download is the problem (for me).
Kind Regards!

Mine didn’t even start to download, just immediately said to check my connection when I tried.

I just installed a fresh copy of Comodo Internet Security Premium on my Vista computer and can’t get any updates. It reports that I should check my connection. My connection works fine, the only problem is this anti virus update.
Has anyone got a solution to this problem? I have also reinstalled the CIS twice without any joy. If I can’t solve it I would have to revert back to AVG.
One more thing: I have even downloaded the bases.cav and added it in the scanner folder; and that has not made any difference.
Helen.
Do you have other security or network related programs running in the background? Which ones? Try disabling them.
What type of security related programs are you referring to? As far as I know, there’s nothing else running except the normal program icons on the notification area such as skype, Yahoo messenger, Google earth icon and a few others. Other than that there’s nothing else.
Judging by the comment on this forum it’s obvious that this is fairly common problem and no one has come up with a reasonable solution yet

Not being able to update the av signature database is often caused by using an outdated version of CIS.
However your and Paul’s case are a different animal as it happens straight from the box. For the moment I exclude the possiblity that a problem with one of the servers is the case as you and Paula are on different sides of the Atlantic Ocean (Comodo has several update servers for the US and Europe).
I will take a more thorough look with you into this to see if we can get the finger behind what is happening.
Is CIS the only security program you have installed?
Do the firewall logs give a clue here? They are under Firewall → Common Tasks → View Firewall Events. When needed post a screenshot.
Look under Firewall → Advanced → Network Security Policy → Application Rules → and make sure the Comodo Internet Security group is not blocked.
What was/were previous security program(s) you used? Sometimes these programs do not get totally uninstalled and leave behind drivers. Following is a guide to help look for them.
We are gonna take a look to see if there are some old drivers of your previously uninstalled security programs are still around. Go to Device Manager → View → show hidden devices → now look under Non Plug and Play drivers → when you see a driver that belongs to your previous security programs click right → uninstall —> reboot your computer.
When the problem persists make sure there are no auto starts from your previous security programs. Download Autoruns and run it.
This program finds about all auto starts in Windows. This tool can therefore seriously damage Windows when not handled properly. After starting push Escape and go to Options and choose to hide Windows and Microsoft entries, to include empty locations and then push F5 to refresh.
Now check all entries to see if there are references to your previous security program. When you find them untick them. After unticking reboot your computer and see what happens.

I have Spyblaster but I disabled it and it still didn’t work. I also have Malwarebytes’ and SuperAntiSpyware.
I don’t see anything listed about Comodo under firewall events.
I checked under the firewall application rules and it did say “outgoing only.” I changed it to Comodo being a trusted application but that didn’t make any difference.
I was using AVG Free. I went to the device manager and didn’t see any drivers running for AVG. Same with Autoruns. It didn’t show anything for AVG.
I’m still unable to update.
I asked moderator Ronny to come and see if a session with a network sniffer may be helpful. He is an experienced user and is very capable of instructing users how to use the sniffer tool and to report back.
Okay, thank you.
For those still having issues updating the AV and CIS complaining about your internet connection, please create a packet capture and contact me by PM if done.
You can find a How-To here:
Topic: How To: Use Wireshark to troubleshoot network issues
What do you think, can I assume that if download goes up to 50% and all the newest *.cavs can be found in the tmp folder, I have not a network problem as such and the problem has to do with something complete different?
Thanx
Are you on v3.14?
Normally yes, but it could be just the latest incremental missing causing trouble, so just to be sure you could make a capture and see if the last file is there.
It’s normally likely that at 50% download is finished and merging process starts…
Hi comodo / community,
my install of CIS Premium is already downloading the newest virus database.
I recognized that applying of the news files fail.
Updating the database manually (safe mode version) works and CIS has the new version number, but always says that the database has never been updated. So CIS downloads the newest databasefile, but is not able to apply.
CIS Version: 4.1.150349.920
I tried the Comodo-Database-Updater (v1.0), but it is not able to find my installation of CIS
(Sorry for my poor english)
Also tried a clean install of comodo - nothing changed.
Sorry guys, after a few days wrangling this update issue, I finally decided to abandon Comodo and downloaded AVG.
I might come back if AVG messes up next time.
Yeah, same boat here.
I’ve been fighting this update issue all day and, from what I’ve Googled, no one knows why and it’s been intermittent for over a year.
Comodo has worked flawlessly on almost every machine I’ve installed it on, except this one.
It’s not worth the effort. Too many alternatives.
I may have the solution that may or may not work for anyone, today after 6 days of not using my laptop I too was having the av update problems failing with the error of check your internet connection. I came here to the forums to see if anyone else was having this problem and found this thread and read all of the replys. I was about to do what ronny asked of making a wireshark network capture during the update process, well before I started wireshark I had turned the av, firewall, and defense+ (sandbox was always disabled as I dont use or need it) by selecting disabled from the CIS tray notification area. I then started wireshark and started a network capture and then went to update the av database, low and behold it finished correctly. So I suggest turning off all of CIS components and try updating again. I find it strange that as soon as I disabled everything the update completed without any problems, again this may not work for everyone or anyone for that matter but it doesnt hurt to try.
One other thing I noticed is that some people seem to remove the Comodo Group from the Firewall policy, this could also interfere in the communications. Not sure why but just dumping what I’ve seen.
Thing is I am one of those people who removed not only removed comodo group but everything thats listed on a fresh install in both the network and defense+ policys, and I have never had problems updating the av or any other program, in fact I only have System and svchost listed in network security policy since I had v4 which as been a long time now and today has been the only time I couldnt update the av. And there shouldnt be problems considering v4 way of alerting and creating rules for safe applications, because comdo files are digitally signed by comodo and therefore cis marks them safe they should be able to access the internet without alerting the user or with no specific rules allowing them to. Just like I can use internet explorer or firefox to browse the web without issues even though there is no rules for them in the network security policy.
I know but this “behavior” is probably not tested in QA as it’s not by design to remove the predefined settings, so you could be running in to a bug.
try to restore the TCP 80/http access for cmdagent.exe and cfp.exe and see if that helps.
