Error since update (3.5?) - Error loading CFP.DLL [Merged Threads]

Hej!
When Cmf (ver.3.0.25.378) was installing an update yesterday (possibly 3.5) an error message came up. I don’t remember what it said, but since then I get these error messages:

when trying to run comodo firewall:
ERROR: Error while loading resources from C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cfp.dll. Aborting application.

when trying to uninstall:
ERROR: Error while loading resources from C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cfpconfg.dll. Aborting application.

I have tried to install 3.5 again but I get Error 5: Access Denied during the installation. I cant even do the USSS guide. Please help.

Welcome to the forum wdbr
Can you please supply details.
OS XP/Vista? x32/x64?
Also any other realtime security processes you are running.
Thank you
Dennis

I have the same problem after the update. same error messages. I cant run OR uninstall the program.
Im on xp 32bit

I also am having the same problem exactly as the first newbie. I recieved the same error message while downloading an update and and continue to receive it no matter what I try to do, cant get firewall to load and cant get it to uninstall . Please dont tell me to edit the registry to remove it as I am not proficient enough to do that.

Hi,

Since running the latest update (31 Oct 2008 I think), the firewall won’t load, and gives the following error:

ERROR: Error while loading resources from C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cfp.dll. Aborting application.

I have tried reinstalling but that fails, similarly uninstall fails.

I am running WinXP Pro SP2.

I’m not sure where to go from here - any suggestions??

Thanks,

Alan.

Please try downloading (you might already have this file unless you did a upgrade) the install file for CPF3 and run it you should be offer a chance to uninstall.

EDIT Please read this Topic first.

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I actually went through those before posting, but I didn’t spot anything in there related to the problem I posted. I really hate it when people don’t read the stickies properly and post ‘dumb questions’ so please accept my apologies!

I went back just now, and still missed it though :frowning:

Please could you point out which of those linked posts relates to my issue as I think I must be missing the obvious here.

Thanks,

Alan.

Sorry it cpf.theme not cpf.dll I saw.
You could try this.

I’m getting the exact same thing. After Comodo updated itself, whenever Windows starts I get that error message (“ERROR: Error while loading resources from C:\Program Files\COMODO\Firewall\cfp.dll. Aborting application.”). I tried to uninstall Comodo but that gives the same error message. I tried downloading the latest COMODO install and running that but it asks me if I want to uninstall the current Comodo. Pressing “Yes” to that displays the same error message again. (and saying “No” does nothing)

I’ve checked other posts on the forums about uninstalling Comodo, but they all seem to reference an file fwconfig that doesn’t exist in my system; then again, those posts are a couple years old so perhaps the filenames are out of date. On that assumption I tried running cfpconfg -uninstall but got the same error message again. I don’t see a cfp.dll in the Firewall folder or anywhere under C:\Windows.

I’m running Windows Vista Ultimate on a new laptop (I originally installed Comodo from an older setup I had from another computer and was letting it run its updates) and recently installed Vista SP1 (I honestly can’t remember right now if I did the SP1 install before installing Comodo initially or not, but I know SP1 was installed before this Comodo update).

I’ve tried deleting the Comodo folder and am denied (even though I’m logged in as an Administrator). I’ve also checked Services and there’s a “Comodo Firewall Pro Helper Service” running, but I’m unable to stop that as well.

How can I get rid of this cleanly so I can try to install again?

Please read this Topic
Also as you have Vista is UAC enabled if yes please try right click Run as Adminstrator as even in Admin account with UAC enabled you do not always have admin rights.

Thanks for the quick reply. I’d already read the "
CFP 3.0 Update/Installation Problems [Merged Threads] " topic referenced in the post you linked to and didn’t see anything relevant there (although it did lead me to check if System Center is still seeing the Firewall as on, and it is… whether that means it REALLY is on, though, I don’t know.

I already disabled UAC. This is my first PC with Vista (my main computer that’s also running Comodo is XP) so there are probably things in Vista that I still need to discover that might help troubleshoot this, but disabling UAC was one of the first things I figured out how to do!

I have asked the other Moderators if someone has a solution for this problem as you are missing cfp.dll.
I or one of the other mods will post back.
Thank you
Dennis

Thank you.

FYI, I checked my other computer and it’s running CFP 3.0.25.378, which is the same version that I downloaded and tried to install over the failed update. I also tried right-clicking on the setup and choosing “Run as Administrator” even though UAC is disabled, just in case that might make a difference and got the same message. When I checked my Comodo installation on my other computer I don’t see a cfp.dll file in its Comodo\Firewall folder either, but it seems to be running fine.

I saw some instructions here https://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/full_removal_of_comodo_firewall_pro_3_with_safesurf_toolbar_if_regular_uninstall_method_fails-t17220.0.html that go into painful detail about how to do a full removal of CFP, but they’re from last year so I’m not sure if they’re still totally valid and since they seem to be in response to people having problems with the uninstaller and this seems to be a problem with the install, I’m hoping that there’s a better resolution than that.

Thanks!
Keven

OK, one final note about this and I’ll wait to see if any of the other moderators have any ideas! (:WIN)

I’m starting to wonder if there really is a cfp.dll. I think that message may just be coming up in response to an attempt to run cfp.exe. The reason I say this is because I just tried to run cfpconfg again and I noticed that the error message I get doesn’t give an error message about cfp.dll it gives an error message about cfpconfg.dll! Similarly, if I try to run cfpupdat.exe I get an error about cfpupdat.dll and if I run cfp.exe I get an error about cfp.dll.

So, the problem’s probably not with a missing file, but in that case I don’t know what the problem actually is. Still, it’s more info, so hopefully that tidbit will mean something to someone else!

Thanks for posting back I wondered if that file was in CPF3 it appears not.
Posted screenshot of CIS folder.

EDIT Please check to see if anything else is missing apart from cavs file these are for AV

I apologize for not giving sufficient info in my first post. I have XP, x32. The windows security services are disabled and I use Kasperksy Anti-Virus 7.0 and Spybot S&D.

I tried the solution that you suggested but there is no such Un-install option. Just a thought, could someone upload a folder of a working CF3 install? And see what happens if you switch the existing corrupt folder to the new one. (probably a very newbie suggestion… :))

Interesting… your screenshot IS showing dlls that I don’t have. But I’m missing the same dlls on both my XP and my Vista computers and CFP is working on the XP computer (and yes, I do have my folder views on both set to show hidden files and folders and to show system files). I assume the dlls are placed in the same location on both Visa and XP?

Here are the files from your screenshot that I don’t see (I’m just comparing against the computer that’s displaying the problem here):

cfp.dll
cfpconfg.dll
cfplogvw.dll
cfpsbmit.dll
cfpupdat.dll
COMODO - Antivirus Security…
COMODO - Firewall Security.cfg
COMODO - Internet Security…
COMODO - Proactive Security…

I have one file that’s missing from your listing: COMODO - Network Security.cfg.

I also checked my Repair folder and I don’t have copies of any of those dlls there either. If it helps, here’s a complete dump of my Firewall folder and subfolders:

Would some of the differences (particularly the cfg files) be the fact that your screenshot is from CIS where mine was from CFP? I’m using Comodo Firewall Pro 3, not CIS 3.5.

Is there any chance you can use System Restore?
What has the Comodo folder have in Program Files is it Comodo Firewall folder or is it Comodo Internet Security folder?
Thank you
Dennis

This appears the problem CPF3 does not need cfp.dll so it should not ask for it, CIS needs this dll + the other four you do not have.
On the computer you have a problem is there any chance you can use System Restore.
