Error at start activation

Hello to all and excused for my English (I’m italian). When I install comodo appears error 1931, but the installation goes to good aim. Butat reboot this error appears and I do not succeed to activate it and to make to work it. Before I used Avira. Thanks for the answers.

G’day,

Welcome to the forums.

Although I don’t speak Italian, the error dialogue appears to refer to activation. There have been several other posts about not being able to activate Comodo licenses if the PC is behind a proxy.

Have a look at

If you are behind a proxy, it would probably be worth reposting your query in this topic.

Hope this helps,
Ewen

P.S. Comodo have recently set up some forums to cater for foreign languages, including Italian. Check on the main forum menu for “International Comodo Forums”. ciao

Thank you for the help, but the problem isn’t a proxy, because I haven’t. The AV doesn’t start, not only the activation. The AppName that crash is “softact.exe”…I think that a format is the only choice :-\

G’day,

I would assume that “softact.exe” is something to do with SOFTware ACTivation. Rather than resorting straight to formatting, you could try 1) redownloading the application (to make certain that your current downloaded copy of the setup file isn’t corrupted), 2) uninstalling your currently installed version and 3) installing the newly downloaded version.

If you are going to redownload and reinstall, make sure that you have any other anti virus application temporarily disabled when you run the install. This may not help, but it sure won’t hurt! ;). It may also help to temporarily disable any firewall you have running, although Comodo AntiVirus shouldn’t have a problem with a properly configured firewall (It also shouldn’t have a problem with installing, but here we are. ;)).

It’s worth perservering. This application, and Comodos support, is really good and is only getting better.

Hope this helps,
Ewen

I have already tried to make all the solutions. First Time downloading it through COMODO firewall, then from site. The last attempt before format is to unistall also CO.MO.DO firewall and to install for first the antivirus ones. Thank you

EDIT: Tried also last attempt, tonight format. :-\ :-\ :-\

I hope you get this sorted out.

If you don’t, could you please post the results here and email them to support@comodo.com. The more issues they are aware of, the better solutions they can provide to others.

cheers,
ewen

hmmm softact.exe? Can you pls find more info on this softact.exe and tell us.

thanks
Melih

Probably the problem was in my dirt O.S… After the format I have installed AV and PF without any problem, except 1931 but it does not compromise the operation. Activation gone to good aim. Thanks of the trips and I hope to have given useful information.

Hi ciciolo, are you saying that the av is still a trial version?

No, now it’s all ok, just the processes demand too much ram (45.000 KB AV, 30.000 Kb PF). Before the format it did not make it to activate and it did not enter in function. After format all ok.

Glad to hear it installed ok. The Comodo team are working on ram usage to be less.

This problem is now affecting me with the new beta…

I have a laptop running XP sp2 which is about a week old… it did have Free-AV installed before CAV… other machines I have are OK… but whenever I install…try to activate the software SOFTACT.exe just crashes.

Tried uninstalling, reinstalling… using safe mode etc but still no good.

Any ideas please?

this is exactly the same thing I encountered with the beta 1.1 last week, I also did a uninstall and reinstall and did it in safe mode. In safe mode I was able to open the box for the reg logon, but in normal windows it won’t. I couldn’t test if it would register/activate in safe mode though cause my dialup won’t connect in safe mode. I have since uninstalled the whole deal antivir and firewall untill this gets fixed. I went back to ZA security suite for now. I will re load both programs again however once this problem is addressed. I like the GUI more on these programs than ZA GUI. but than its not the looks that do the job. I’d like to see a “security Suite” type from comodo with the AV, FW and a AntiSpy maybe than they will all work as one unit.

Indeed Hoody, fingers crossed because it seems a great suite of software.

Hope this helps.
Could you keep me informed on what the fault is, or at least what causes it?

Another thing:
I have AVG Free Antivirus installed before Comodo. Now I’ve uninstalled it but the ComodoAV still sees that there is another antivirus in the system. I’ve already cleaned up the registry but still the same error. For where is the information taken, that there is another anti virus program on the system? I’ve couldn’t figure it out.

Thank you for your support.

Regards,
X

PS: I’ve saw that if I reinstall the system it might solve my problem, but this not really a solution for me.

G’day x,

The objects reported in the XP security centre are stored in the file

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wbem\Repository$WinMgmt.CFG

If you rename this file and reboot, Windows will rebuild the repository according to whatis actually installed. Please note that CAVS 2.X is not currently WMI compliant and will not be reported byteh Security Centre. Hopefully this will change in a future release.

Thanks for the info on Softact.exe. I’m sure Melih will whip the code monkeys into action, but this is a really intermittent fault that has only affected a handful of users, so it may be hard to track down and end up being system specific (like the HAL.DLL issue).

Cheers,
Ewen
