error:112 [RESOLVED]

I don’t mean to sound rude but…
wtf is error 112? ???
m1cr()$()f7 could not repair their own problems even if I were to hold their hand and show them what the problem is / was…
sorry let’s start not from the begining but closer to the end…
(in other words a couple of months ago)
basiclly I like to try new “things” out or should I say second gen beta or in a nut shell the copy before final release (minor) bug hunting
just so you know what I’m working with…
win xp home
IE7 beta
live (dot) com
live search
live mail
live one care (pos or at least the beta was never able to update anything at anytime )
defender (or m1cr()$()f7 anti spyware beta)
before one care / defender
spybot s&d (recommended)
spyware blaster(recommended)
zonelab zone alarm free firewall (recommended it up until it just stoped updating it self)
grisoft avg free anti virus
trial:
McAffee AV
symantic AV
ca AV
etc etc etc :o
all in all I guess you could say I’ve been around the block once or twice…
other then the error 112 neither copies of comodo personal firewall have been able to up date itself successfully 2.0.0.1 and 2.1.0.1 just got it from cnet and I took a quick glance at the forum and you’re already up to 2.3 beta :P…
I mean it is not just your product I do have a few other programs that are unable to up date itself >:( very frustrating even worse tech support is non exhistant and some of the forums have “members” that are clueless cough ( I see some of you already met at least one (avg) forum) cough any who
from what I see some of you are at least familiar with the product and might be able to help further
thnx 4 yr time

oh no!
Guys, we have an Error 112 here!!!
Not sure if we should let him in on the secret about error 112 guys?
what do you say?

lets have a poll! to see if we should let 1nf3s73d know about this secret or not… he was the lucky one to have caught this!

Melih

other then what error 112 stands for…
and yes I did read what came after the “:”…
unable to update…
but why am I unable to download or should I say update your software but I am able to update others…
microsoft indicated that it is a problem with YOUR software not their software…
“you get what you pay for… try the final edition of one care it is much better then the beta…etc etc etc”
which is why I am asking why am I getting error 112 I’d figure you’d have an idea…
guess you guys are either as clueless as other software vendor after all the only difference here is at least I did not have to pay for anything, or could care less about your potentual clients and would perfer ridiculing them then helping them out
thnx !@#$%^&$%^&*()m!n

Come on 1nf3s73d , no offense intended. just trying to be friendly.
Comodo is a fun community, a joke here and there is ok Don’t be so serious, take it easy. (CLY)

ok, ok, lets talk about your problem.
Tell me exactly when this occurs?
is it when you install, after installation, what do you do that causes it (anything u click etc).
are you running any other firewall or other security application? have you uninstalled them?

thanks
Melih

Just to make sure that I’ve interpreted your problem correctly;

At some point, during or after the installation of some version of Comodo Personal Firewall, you got an “Error 112”, and this may, or may not, have had something to do with updating the application.

If the above it correct, can you let us know the following;

  1. At what point does this error dialogue occur - during the installation of CPF, during the execution of CPF (application startup), during the operation of CPF (clicking on something in CPF), during a CPF update process … We need to know when it happens.

  2. Do you have a screen shot of the error message?

  3. Is the message generated by CPF, by Windows, or by another application?

  4. You mentioned that ZA suddenly stopped updating and you have had problems with other apps not updating. Is there an underlying system issue, external to CPF?

  5. What is the version number of CPF that is currently installed on your system?

  6. When did your keyboard break?

Hint : It might make it easier for others to help you if you posted your question in plainer english. Even some of the smarter ones find it tedious to read s0m37h1ng wri77en l1ke 7h1s.

If you can send this info, we’ll do what we can - even us clueless ones occassionally come up with clues.

Hope this helps,
Ewen

could not figure out for the life of me what the heck I did but something hadda give (gave… given… or wat-eva) any who got rid of avg downloaded your beta AV got rid of comodo firewall 2.1.0.1 and microsoft defender downloaded your beta fire wall went back to spybot S&D and spyware blaster/guardian and a download manager program…
problem solved…
honestly, I don’t know why,
nor do I really care…
actually it’s kinda strange usually I like to find the reason why things work or in my case don’t work… but for now I am willing to leave well enough alone and quit tempting fate…
it works
it works very well had to get rid of a couple of key loggers, a couple of dialers, pop unders??? one trojan horse, and a hand full of viruses
your new beta AV/FW downloads/updates without a hitch
I have yet to be disconnected/logged off (with out my doing so)
connection speed stays around 52k to 53k download is up to around 5-7k
use to start at around 40-50 then drop to some where around mid to upper 20-40’s
downloads use to be 1-3k (if possible/able)
thnx

  1. At what point does this error dialogue occur - during the installation of CPF, during the execution of CPF (application startup), during the operation of CPF (clicking on something in CPF), during a CPF update process … We need to know when it happens.

I never update till after I am done installing any program…
it makes it easier (for me ) to locate problems
sometimes updated drivers don’t function like they are supposed to
but an older driver update does work example:
you have ver. 2.0.0
you download the newest version 2.1.1 but it doesn’t work
so you either go back to the original or an older updater in this case 2.0.9
in a nut shell…
after install and a reboot I tried to update both automatically and manually
in both case senarios error112

  1. Do you have a screen shot of the error message?
    sorry I do not

  2. Is the message generated by CPF, by Windows, or by another application?
I would assume CPF the MS windows error messages usually don’t look like it

  3. You mentioned that ZA suddenly stopped updating and you have had problems with other apps not updating. Is there an underlying system issue, external to CPF?
I checked back files for comparison it started after I updated IE7…
or should I say deleated an older IE7 for an updated IE7
but it also deleated IE6 I had a way to use both at the same time,…
especially since my MSN only worked with IE6 not IE7
and with the deleation (or how ever it is spelled) of IE6 some files for MSN most important download manager without DM, I was unable to download / update many programs

  4. What is the version number of CPF that is currently installed on your system?
    CPF 2.3 beta
during my problem 2.0.0.1 and 2.1.0.1

  5. When did your keyboard break?

ahhh come on…
it’s not that bad…
try desiffering (making an attempt to read) some “L337” ■■■■ in binary or hexadecimal :stuck_out_tongue:

found the problem,
it was nobodies fault but own (I guess)
MSN / MSN dial up / IE6 and IE7 don’t play well with each other >:(
usually I can take joke ;D
except when ■■■■■■
it was one of those things that was ticking me off
all I have to do now is…
wait for MSN to be fully IE7 compliant ::slight_smile:
who would ever have thought that microsoft products don’t get along :-\

i know this is an old thread but i am getting the same prob.

(:AGY)
i get this prob when i have tried to update the software/database.

the prog tells me there is updates waiting yet when i click ok it downloads them the gives me a option box with yes/no have tried both options both with the same outcome 112 error unable to update.

(:NRD)
plse help. if i can get no satisfaction then i will have to go back to zonealarm and avg…but dont wont to as they are resource hungry…

any help or info most welcome

Welcome to the forums, zolaisugly (:WAV)

Sorry you’re having this problem!

Can you please provide some more information:

Current OS
System Information (RAM, CPU info, etc)
Current browser
Version of Firewall
Other security software (AV, AS, etc) and version

That will give the folks here something to start with…

Thanks,

LM

ok my os is win xp pro with sp2 and all updates installed
my system spec is athelon 2400xp, with 512 ram using ie6 with sp2 installed

the firewall version is latest available i think it is 2.2.0.11
antivirus is comodo version 1.1.0.3 virus database 1.1.1.162 build update version 1.1.0.10
i dont have any probs with the antivirus updating it is just the firewall.

i adware installed ver6 i believe not used for long time.

hope this is ok.

i have just found another anoying prob when the comp starts up everything loads ok but after about 10-15 secs i get a comodo popup message telling me that the firewall failed to load try reinstalling to correct, i have now uninstalled and reinstalled 3 times after each time i use a reg and file cleaner to rid my system of any remaing files in case these should be causing probs.

plse help as i would like to use this software as to using zonealarm and avg.

If you think your firewall is v 2.2.0.11 (go to the “About” button, top right, just to make sure), you’re WAY behind…

Current public release is v 2.3.6.81, available for download here: http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

This may be the reason you are unable to complete updates for it; there may be none available for that version… :frowning:

LM

PS: A final stable release of v 2.4 should be hitting the streets soon…

thnaks for the info lm it seemes to have worked will keep you posted.

i have ran the updater and found there is no updates for this version so it looks like you were right.

any info on what is different with v2.4 or what will be added?? or is it a case of it will just get fatter for the sake of it?

The big thing is languages; they’ve developed, I think, 13 different languages that have gone through translation/error-fixing.

That and some other functionality. I’m using one of the Betas at the moment on one machine, and my website-loading is a lot faster than with 2.3.6.81. I mean, I can see the difference; it’s not just a matter of watching process times and whatnot.

They’ve implemented a number of user requests, and generally have perked it up a bit. So, as far as fatter, no, I’d have to say sleeker, leaner, meaner…

Comodo’s really being diligent to avoid the fat, while still implementing user suggestions/requests, and providing the absolute best in security. I’ve gotta give 'em their “props” for that. (:CLP)
