dream come true

“CFP is quite simply the best freeware firewall ever created” !!!

So, it’s not only me  - but, I would add: “until now”. Keep it like this!

Nice to see. :-TU

I’m shocked though to see that the guy has 57 running processes. :o I have 14 including my browser. ;D

LOL, missed that one – I have 15 on XPSP2 reported by CFP and 18 on taskmngr – can’t get rid of wmiprvse (located in system32\wbem – no malware) any ideas, LA? I’m running no server, and I haven’t seen it lately, but I’ve activated it somehow, and don’t know how to get rid of it. No emergency, I think, but I can use some help.
Coming back to the above-mentioned article, I’ve stumbled in it somehow -the opinion looked like a 3-rd party to me – and being sick an tired of reading lots of negative opinions about some software nobody is forcing anyone to use – I thought some

won’t hurt

wmiprvse is the back end for the Windows Management Interface (WMI). Windows Security Centre is just one of the services that use WMI for intercommunications.

Cheers,
Ewen

Aware of that, thanks Ewen, Security Center was always disabled. I’m almost sure wmipr… wasn’t running before, but I’ve installed/ uninstalled various software, including some SQL server, and one of them might have triggered this process. WMI started, automatic, as always – but I’m falling off-topic, sorry.
It would be nice if D+ had the option to log changes made by installers.

Hm, I don’t know why you have it running. At first I thought it was related to the service WMI, but mine is started (the service) and still I don’t have that process running. Here’s some info.

This should be only taken at face value.
CFP v3 may the best out there, but it is FAR from being perfect; this is only proof of the crappiness of the entire software firewall market.

The bottom line is every firewall I have tried is severely lacking in some regard; CFP v3 is no exception.

Maybe someday CFP v3 will be the best on its own, without having to rely on comparisons to other products to support its position, but that day has certainly not yet come, my friends.

Thank you for your negative comments AXL  Some people see it half full and some see it half empty…

One thing for sure, nothing is perfect! It might be good for one’s needs, but nothing is perfect! Which means everything can be improved continuously. And its all about having the committment to build and continually improve towards that perfection that we can never reach!

Just to satisfy my own curiousity can you tell me what firewall you do run (i.e. which is the least ■■■■■■ of all the ■■■■■■ firewalls you’ve encountered)? If indeed it is the most uncrappy, then others can undoubtedly benefit from your experience.

LOL. Whatever is currently perceived as being the best is judged as such because it is deemed to be better than other similar objects within the same field with the same purpose. Put simply, something becomes the “best” by being “better” than others. Comparative measures are the only definitive means of measuring improvement in a quantifiable manner (a little something known as benchmarking).

Speaking philosophically, “best” can only exist if there is a “worst”.
