Discussion about unannounced CIS Beta

Thanks that’s sad then. Bad Microsoft 88)

what about cis monthly update of cis 6.3?

I’m waiting for next build, I can’t install current version on Windows 8.1 :embarassed:

I do not see anything surprising, Windows 8.1, not yet officially started. So do not run ahead of the train, patience …

Just for anyone who wants to know, Microsoft announced they were NOT going to give 8.1 RTM to the MSDN and TechNet people until the official release…

As of Friday, Windows 8.1 RTM is downloadable from the MSDN Technet web site.

Norton Internet Security Beta works with 8.1 RTM, currently protecting my customers 8.1 builds with it, waiting for a working Comodo, as I prefer it to Norton any day.

Ya i installed win 8.1 rtm thru MSDN, and cis 6.2 not working, comodo refuses to spread 6.3 beta, are we have to change our security programs? I know 8.1 rtm not official, but still, over 2 mln system 8.1 rtm legally installed and activated so far, if comodo will be late many users will change their security programs , cause noone can allow 2 month waiting unprotected

On Windows 8.0. CIS 6.3. works perfectly, :-TU waiting for the final version.

unannounced CIS 6.3 works fine on Windows 8.1 Ent x64

CIS 6.3 widget does not save location after reboot Windows 8.1!

“Refuses” is a bit harsh - they just haven’t finished it yet.

6.3 will be available before Win 8.1 is released for general distribution - you wait and see.

Cheers,
Ewen

I dont use widget(Win 8.1 x64 Ent), only firewall

Waiting…

The new version should be more and more simpler to use, all-in-1 solutions, no popping gazillions of windows and tabs to find and set stuff.

I used Comodo Firewall a long time ago. It was great. It was without HIPS and auto-enabled-passed Windows services / files etc. going in and out without asking me. This had changed in v6. I didn’t like it. Morelike when it’s installed there could perhaps be a wizzard to set them up, but not ready made rules.

I liked the feature for setting rule for everything, I think that’s one of the reason for firewalls, knowing what goes in and out, but also setting a rule and forget. I don’t wont pre-set rules next time.

HIPS. HIPS was messy and clutter and despite enabling/trusting some programs, they still were not able to run. I tried and tried, on those more than one different windows/tabs to set the HIPS rules trusted (why so many?) but it didn’t work I wasn’t able to launch those apps. So I uninstalled Comodo and looked an other way.

Those apps where AMD ATI Cataclyst Control Center (CCC) and HW Monitor from CPUID.

COuld the next version ask from the user that does want pre-set rules or not? And does or does not messy HIPS or easy and clean HIPS?

Leaving Comodo was a hard strike for me as I remembered the app as completely different: Trusted and Easy. But it seemed bogus.

This is sad because I was also thinking for the AV solution, as a separate or only AV next/instead of my new AV, and maybe go for the full version.

Oh, and that Widget, MS dropped the Widgets/Sidebar because of security issues. Such an app in desktop breaches desktop security and might open, and some did, for hackers to utilize, so MS ditched widgets/sidebar. However there are peeps who love such as widgets, people should be disbale/enable it in custom install. I wouldn’t want such a security hazard on my computer not even if I’m not using it.

edit: typo

When you get it, it’s pretty simple to use(but it took a little time to find all settings I wanted).
I also didn’t like the preset rules but I just deleted them so the Firewall is always asking if Windows Services can connect so the Internet or not, I have also enabled the setting to make a rule for every allowed application, so I can set everything the way I like.
What I don’t like is the Sandbox, so I deactivated it, Basically I’m using the Firewall and the AV, it’s setup the way I like, every application that wants out I get a Popup from the Firewall, if not I already have a rule for that Application, Works like a charm. I like it…

Thanks

No use trying to rush Comodo.

They (Comodo) could really cut down the number of processes to 2. For example Avast has this too. 1 for the service, and 1 for the GUI. The service cannot be shut down. It used to be possible with password, but not anymore.

Naming the services/processes is also good having them samelike ~ so that they sort of group up in task manager.

The gadget widget sidebar thingy should be optional. In fact and after all, Microsoft ditched the whole thing because of security issues.

Speaking of Avast, in the latest build (9.*.2011) WebShield is completely re-written, so there shouldn’t be no incompatibility issues with Avast and Comodo anymore. The heck, one might even be able to run Comodo and Avast AVs side by side.

There is a new generation of viruses and malware, so there needs to be new ways to tackle stuff. Triple-engine antiviruses are on few products. Heuristics analysis and script analysis getting better. Definition based AV’s/security softwares aren’t the thing anymore, signatures only make a portion of the produced security.

Where is Comodo going? What all new excitement security enhancements we’re getting?

Since CIS 6.3.302093.2976 has already been released which is what this topic was about (when it was in beta) im going to lock this topic
