Difference Between Root and Intermediate?

Hello,

What is the difference between the root and intermediate certificates?

Also, is there a web page you provide that will allow me to test out if my SSL certificate is installed correctly?

Thanks!

Mark

A root certificate is valid for 10+ years and is self-signed.

An Intermediate is signed by another certificate of which the CN or O field are words vs. that of only a domain name.

Also, is there a web page you provide that will allow me to test out if my SSL certificate is installed correctly?

https://sslanalyzer.comodoca.com/ and if this doesn’t suite your needs, there are others on the internet.

Thanks for the reply.

If Comodo issues a new intermediate certificate, are the previous intermediate certs still valid?

Thanks!

Mark

Yes, so long as the intermediates themselves are not expired but keep in mind, if you get a new certificate your server must present the certificates that are relevant to that certificate.
