Data file update crashes Vista (3.0.18.309x32)

I’m running Vista Business 32 bit, no SP and Comodo 3.0.14.276. This morning Comodo told me there was an update available so I let it download and install it. It then wanted to reboot the computer. When it did, Vista came up in a recovery screen. Eventually, it restored my computer to an earlier system restore point.

I tried three different times with .276, even uninstalling and reinstalling. Only when I did the update from within Comodo (assuming that it was updating data files), did it crash Vista.

I then went to the Comodo website to see if others were having this problem. I found nothing. But, there was a more current version, 309, so I downloaded and installed that, after uninstalling 276. Same result. 309 installed fine, but when I went into it and had it check for updates, the updates installed, but after the computer rebooted, I was back into that recovery screen and had to go back to a prev. system restore point.

I have all the Vista stuff, like firewall and defender, turned off. I’ve also done my best to defeat that User Account Control that messes up my ability to access my computer.

I like Comodo and want to continue using it. Is this problem just in the data update, or is there a problem in the base program? And then there’s Vista, that great instigator of ulcers.

Thanks for any help,

Ernie
