Hi.
I don’t know whether I should go straight to bug report or not because I have so far been able to reproduce this on one computer that does not allow me much testing.
Every time I install or upgrade CIS, I import my old configuration scheme and delete all configuration schemes that I don’t need. So, I import “My own.cfgx” and delete “COMODO - Firewall Security”, “COMODO - Proactive Security” and “COMODO - Antivirus Security” profiles. The last few times, however, this didn’t work. Instead, the following happens:
[ol]- I select one of the three and issue a delete command. CIS reports it is deleted. It goes off the list.
- I select a second profile and issue a delete command. CIS reports deletion failed. Any subsequent attempt to delete anything means an error message.
- When I exit the Advanced Settings dialog box, I see the wrong configuration is in effect. CIS deleted something but that wasn’t what I told it.
- If I open Registry Editor and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Software\COMODO\Firewall Pro\Configurations, I’d find all my configuration profiles intact; only somehow, CIS doesn’t show them. From there I can delete or activate whichever I wish. In one case I found six configs there, from 0 to 5.[/ol]
So, is it just me or is that an actual bug?
That’s an interesting finding. With which version is this happening? Do you have other security programs installed? Which one(s) run in on demand and which ones in the background?
Happens on 6.3.294583.2937 and later.
I have no other security programs except Windows Firewall and Windows Defender; they don’t run.
I tested it on my Win 8 x64 and I can confirm the behaviour.
I am calling this a bug. If you have the time and energy please consider filing a bug report in the Bug Reports - CIS board following the format as described in FORMAT & GUIDE - just COPY/PASTE it!.
Reporting of bugs is strictly moderated to make sure Comodo gets clear bug reports. So, please make sure you closely follow protocol. That way your report will certainly be seen by Comodo staff.
Thanks. I just filed a bug here: https://forums.comodo.com/bug-reports-cis/cannot-reliably-delete-configuration-profiles-t99756.0.html
I wish I could add a video too but when I wanted to reproduce config change, Defense+ was activated, sandboxed the screen capture app and things didn’t work out…
What do you mean with things didn’t work out.
I did not get a video of the bug reproduction.
Don’t worry. I’ll figure something out.
A video won’t be needed. This is a straightforward bug with a limited set of steps for reproduction.
