comp problems

Ok, i’ve been having problems with Windows Security Center service reporting itself as turned off 5 or so minutes after being logged on. I tried doing a System Restore once, but the System Restore said it could not run because the Volume Shadow Copy Service was not running. I never turned these off ever.

I followed the sticky and nothing was found by any of the software.

Here is the HijackThis log:

I ran the log trough www.hijackthis.de and it found one blatant problem:
O4 - HKLM..\RunOnce: [Launcher] %WINDIR%\SMINST\launcher.exe
Neutral Must be fixed! Spyware component related to DownloadWare and found in Program FilesKFH

It also found three entries with file missing. You can fix them as well.

I assume this is Google’s crash logger: C:\Users\Ian\AppData\Local\Google\Update\1.2.183.7\GoogleCrashHandler.exe . If so, then this entry is no issue.

The Program FilesKFH folder does not exist on my computer.

That entry is detected by Spybot’s Startup Entries tool also with the same message. Although that specific process has existed on my system since I got it new. The Digital Signature on the file is from Soft Thinks. Product name soft thinks launcher. Date Modified: 7/3/2007 7:40 pm. That date is also when it was created.

This file is located in a folder with the Gateway Recovery Manager. So I believe it is from Gateway.

I have Google Chrome and Google Earth on this computer. It has come from them.

I think we need to look some place else for the problem. Start with the reset of the Windows Security Center: Reset Windows Security Center - Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and Privacy Software and let us know if that helped.

Did you try showing hidden files/ folders? And did you try running malware bytes? This may helpp getting ride of your spyware.

Will try that now.

I have hidden files/folders visible. I forgot to mention it, but i did follow the guide on here.

Also something else I have just found as of last night, anything I open in Normal Mode for Windows, will startup but will lock up. Everything will lock up. I have to force the computer to shutdown. If I boot in Safe Mode, I can do what I want (as long as it works in Safe Mode).

malwarebytes will install and update in safe mode with networking you may want to run msconfig and click start up tab and disable everything from starting except comodo and then try running in normal mode.

I installed Malwarebytes when this started happening. It didn’t find anything. Super Antispware didn’t either.

I attached a log with the startup files generated by Spybot S&D. Some of these startup files are required by my computer I believe, cause some say Intel.

When you are in Safe Mode you can start up the Comodo client program. Go to Defense + → Advanced → Computer Security Policy and see if there are important programs or Windows system files blocked. If so unblock them and start your system again in normal mode.

To see if CIS plays a role try disabling D+ and start your system in normal mode again. Does that help? To disable D+ go to Defense + → Advanced → Defense + settings → tick “Deactivate the Defense + permanently (requires a system restart)”.

Keep us posted.

I looked and just removed all entries for files in “C:\Windows” that weren’t in the Windows System Applications Group preset, Windows Updater Application preset, or COMODO Internet Security preset.

Disabled it. But Security Center just popped up as i was writing this and told me that it was not running again.

Ok that didn’t help.
actually so far nothing helped,

Disabling D+ didn’t help so it is not related to CIS… I am kinda stuck for answers right now…

If you are using windows vista you can insert the bootable disk and when it says do you want to start from cd or dvd hit enter and then click repair my computer click system restore and choose a restore point. I know you said system restore failed in normal mode but on my vista pc it always worked.

Disabling D+ allowed me to stay running in Normal Mode, just the Security Center popup shows up after a while. Which is sorta strange, it hasn’t shown up for half an hour now.

I may wipe out the policy for D+ and Firewall and rebuild it from scratch. See if I can turn D+ back on without getting froze.

Oh I can run system restore from safe mode, but it doesn’t go back far enough now, and I had tried that before contacting y’all, it didn’t help.
