COMODO V5 & V6 Users Count Poll

v5.

version 6 UI is slow, all kinds of options are nested 12+ clicks into the configuration screens, looks like a kiddy book, wasting way too much screen space, and full of non-working or “untrustable” options.

Build up on v5.5 which was brilliant, instead of always starting something completely new and having to work/update years until it reaches to same level of awesomeness as the previous one was, but then there will still be the way too clunky/slow/horribly nested UI.

A group of users suffers from problem with network connection. Comodo is working on a solution:

I reverted to v5 out of necessity. v6.0.264710.2708 was the last I tried and it bogged down my otherwise peppy system to a crawl. I will try the new release v6.1.275152.2801 when I get some time.

XP SP3, 3.0GHz, 3.5GB RAM

Version 6.1.275152.2801 is currently withdrawn. They are fixing a severe networking bug affected a small group of users. Keep an eye on the release topic for when the new build arrives. Egemen said they would fix it quickly; in my best guess that would be earliest after the weekend.

Thanks for the heads up, EricJH. I’ll work on it next week. :-TU

I received that version number through the program updater and everything is working fine.

As Eric stated, it affected a small group of users. If everything is working fine for you, that’s great.

HOW TO USE 5?

I just HAAAAAAAAAAAATE the 6

Normal simple things like block traffic righ button on icon now is a setting lost somewhere and equivalent to disable the networks card.

As much as I try I cant find nothing positive on it really. Working with it is a constant strugle.

After 6 years of usage I started to look for a replacement.

Oddly things got complicated when paid support appeared

:o

Thx for the info EricJH

I just gave CFW 6.1 a try, and after a few hours with it I’ve gone back to v5. I upgraded my notebook before making changes to my main system. After installing v6.1 on my notebook, it causes system to hang on starting up. I get a black screen which stays for about 3 minutes before it finally continues booting to the login screen.

I never did fix that, but I did play around with it for a couple of hours. The interface is slow, large and things that were easy to get to in v5 now require several layers of menu clicks to find. Version 6 has more processes running eating more resources and RAM. I just want a simple firewall that allows me to set custom rules, and if v6 is any indication as to where Comodo is heading, I’ll stick with v5 for now while I look for a replacement.

Well, I haven’t upgraded because CIS has not offered any update yet.

Just wait a couple of more weeks:

On production systems, I still use CIS v5, as it is more stable, more operative…

On other systems where I would not mind an occasional break down I installed CIS 6, as it has always given me mixed results (mostly failures of some sort)

I am using V5 because it hast asked if I want to update, when it does I will assume V6 is ready.

I’m using v6.

What I noticed so far is I can’t run most of the things I sandboxed when asked (usually steam games), and I can’t run exe from network drive, I have to copy them to my local drive before I can run them.

I don’t plan on dropping v6, but if those things could be fixed, especially the sandbox thing which make the feature completely useless.

edit: btw, I followed this guide found in one of the mod’s sig, maybe it’s related to my problem. But it would be nice to understand why a program/game can or can’t run.
I’m pretty sure what I find on steam is safe, but I don’t understand why it can’t run sandboxed. Is it related to controller and Direct X DLL? Or something else related to read/write and save files?

I would suspect it has to do with save files. Personally, I would never run a game sandboxed just because of that.

We’ll see though judging by how things have developed, I wouldn’t be surprised if nothing happens before September.

If you refer to the auto sandbox, it reduces rights. That obviously will lead to problems when running games (multi-accesses to all resources). If you make games run in a rights reducing sandbox, every virus out there will be able to run too.
You might try a game in the kiosk. I tried it, worked. It was a game that i wanted to see without the possibility of left overs though.
You would have to erase the kiosk box after each game, to erase TEH VIRUS… and you would erase saves and stuff too.
But anyway, those features are not there to make you paranoid. If you load a game from a trusted source, you dont need to run it in a sandbox.
If it was common to get infected by (steam) games, you wouldnt have bought from there in the first place

click on any button:

V6 → start another process (loding time: long) ← the same situation for VK
V5 → does not start another process (loding time: short)
