Are there any advantages (or disadvantages) of using the installable version of CSS over the portable? If not, I’ll probably go for the portable version.

The only difference is that in the installable version, the applications database update is done by CSC, where in the portable version you need to execute UpdateApplications.exe to update the database.
The update ran fine now. The internal updater just seems to run the installer and installs CSC overtop my current installation, heck, I could have done that myself! Is there any difference to running the internal updater? CIS updates differently, just changing the necessary files.
The CSC updater is differrent from the one in CIS.
Updating yourself or running the internal updater is basically the same thing, but by running the internal updater you don't have to download the new installer. CSC does that for you.
Thanks for the explanation, but either way, the installer still needs to be downloaded. Next time I’ll just do a clean install. I’m not too fond of installing a newer version overtop an older one.
