Have you tried following this guide to fix the uninstall issue? You can also download the standalone installer from here and see if it gives you the options to repair or uninstall.
I had this issue on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit, and I had same issue even with Microsoft Office, where Word and Excel didn’t open when I clicked at the files, they just opened as files, but not with the content inside the file, just a grey file. So, the solution I found will help you to get rid of this Comodo bug, and even of Office’s bug if you have in the future the problem I mentioned.
The solution Is very very simple:
The issue is created by Comodo installation which I found that it had installed its files in two different folders: One folder of Comodo was inside the Comodo Folder in Program Files, and the remaining folders of the Antivirus were in the Folder named Comodo but in Program Files(X86). So there are two COMODO FOLDERS, one in Program files and one in Program Files (x86).
The solution i made was just: Cut the folders inside the COMODO Folder located in Program Files (x86), and paste them inside the COMODO FOLDER in Program Files. So all the folders will be from this moment, only in the COMODO Folder in Program Files.
Just click the application icon and it will start to work normally

I have this problem since comodo 10 update on 1 win 7, 1 win 8 and 1 win 8.1 all three have the same problem all the above mentioned fixes not cured the problem - on some boots it run - on others up pops the Comodo security agent could not be started.
As a similar problem appears to have a long time line in to the past surely Comodo engineers can do better they must have built up 4 years worth of data? All I can guess its something to do with the order in which start-up items initialise is it sometime that Comodo firewall is too slow or not at front of list.
Comodo come clean tell us the loyal customer who think overall its a fantastic product what the issue is! You must know?
Same issue here. I’m also waiting for a fixed version.
I get this issue from the latest 10.0.1.6209.
I’ve used version 8 before the notification for a new update comes out and I update to 10.
Clean installation also couldn’t fix this issue.
I contacted the support page and the reply is this.
===================================
Welcome Back to COMODO!
We apologize for last update caused issues. However, there is no security impact due to this issue. It’s just the name issue. Comodo Internet Security is still fully functional and you can make changes. You are still protected by Comodo Internet Security. We will be making full CIS release by next week-end that will fix this issue.
If you have any further questions or comments regarding this matter, please feel free to contact us.
Thanks and Regards,
I don’t know what he means by ‘name issue’.
I’m not a native English speaker.
Does it mean ‘known issue’? If so, it’s a good news because it also means they are preparing an update now.
10.0.16209 seem so buggy anyway.
Another known issue is that firewall automatically makes a shortcut icon on desktop whenever security issue comes up or I turn the view mode between basic and advanced.
I’ve contacted a supporter again by chat to get an installation file of 8 version, but I couldn’t get because he/she doesn’t have.
Version 8 was the most stable to me. I would have never updated if I realized 10 is buggy and unstable.
And, I hope ‘Internet security essentials’ is put as a selective component like greekbuddy and dragon browser for those who really want it.
Many users don’t realize it is surreptitiously installed during firewall 10 installation.
Just had an update to product version 10.0.1.6223. After rebooting first time, Cistray.exe did not show up in the Windows taskbar and my computer crashed. Cistay.exe was however showing in the Windows task manager. I shut down and rebooted and finally Comodo Internet Security Premium 10 seems to be working as it should without the ‘Comodo Security Agent could not be started’ error message, and the icon is on the taskbar. I am keeping everything crossed.
Hello everyone version 10.0.1.6223 was releaed to fix this issue, so please check and report if it is fixed for you or you still experiacne this bug. Also for best results do a clean uninstall then install again. Thanks
I updated to 6223 today and it works perfectly to me. I didn’t uninstall and cleanly reinstalled, just updated through right-click on tray icon > Open > TESKS > Update.
cistray.exe is on the task manager with no problem after the update.
Now the official installation file is still ‘cw_installer_6106_53.exe’ and it looks like an old version.
However just get and install it, it’s not a full offline installation file.
If you install it, its installation process will download and install the latest version.
So, firstly uninstall the current version and try with the official file for clean installation.
Hi,
I have WinXP and W7 dualboot on the notebook. New version of Comodo (6223) fixed this issue on W7 but on XP I can’t make it work. I tried to uninstall previous version and installed a new one from different installers.
After restarting a Windows I have no Tray icon, but proces CisTray.exe is running. “Comodo Security agent” window pops up after several minutes or immediately after launch Comodo from desktop icon (windows designed window).
Internal Diagnostic can’t repair the installation, generated report contains this three “Failed” components:
Win7 Pro 32-bit here. The update yesterday has stopped the errors about the Windows notification service on login, and CIS now auto starts again, but I’m still getting my laptop taking an age from the initial blue screen “Please Wait” to actually being able to log in. That began when CIS had its first issues post upgrading to version 10. Any ideas?
After 6223 update cis does seem to work for about 90% of times;
-couple of times when booting/rebooting my comp; cis/tray doesn’t start and it blocks everything from connecting to internet and doesn’t start when clicking cis.exe/cistray.exe in it’s installation folder.
but it works again when i reboot my comp again.
