Comodo Sandbox/Virtual Kiosk Not Opening

Hi,

First off, I want to say that I’ve been very impressed and pleased with each Comodo product I’ve used, including the sandbox. However, after my most recent update, I’ve been unable to open the Virtual Kiosk or any browsers in the sandbox. Instead, when I, for example, click the Dragon icon on the widget, I can see the usual process pop up in the Windows task manager, but my computer will gradually get slower and slower. The sandbox never actually opens, and I cannot terminate the process by any means other than restarting my computer. This happens on my laptop and on my desktop, each of which is running Windows 7, and it happens any time I try to initiate any program in the sandbox. I’ve reinstalled CIS on both machines, but the problem continues to persist. What steps can I take to resolve this? Thank you!

I have the same problem, there should be a fix included in the next update.

Same problem here. Started with version 6.1.276867.2813.

Kiosk mode remain in “Starting…” mode with its splash screen displaying. I left it for four hours there and it didn’t change.

In the meantime, it is impossible to just close it or forget it. The computer gradually stops responding. Kiosk process cannot be killed. (No error messages, but also cannot be killed.) It is impossible to shutdown or restart the computer gracefully. Resetting remains the only option.

What happens if you reset the sandbox?
Does resetting the sandbox make the Kiosk open up fine if you try to open the Kiosk immediately after resetting it?

No effects. Still does not open.

If you click on the icon for a browser in the widget is it able to open as fully-virtualized? (Note that you’ll be able to tell if it is because all fully virtualized applications are given a green border)

No. I have tried doing this through Dragon menu and context menu and it does not happen. Looking at Process Explorer I see that Kiosk virtualization process and service are both launched (though no splash screen appears). The rest is the same: System slowdown and ultimate irresponsitiveness; Windows does not respond to CTRL+ALT+DELETE; can’t kill the Kiosk process or service; can’t shutdown; etc.

Chiron Haibo has been working on this one with my computer and a fix should be in the next update.

Hello, guys. Just updated to 6.2. Problem didn’t go away. Downgraded back to 6.0. Still no change.

The funny things is: I have 6.1 installed on another system (a netbook) and Sandbox runs okay.

Don’t I need to send you a log or something?

@ Skycommand, please try reinstalling the newest version by following the methods which I suggest in this post.

Then, if the Kiosk will still not open please create a new bug report for this.

Thanks.

The problem I had was that the kiosk would not open when UAC was turned off, but CPU was at maximum and only a restart would empty the sandbox.

I am pleased to say that has now been fixed with the latest 6.2 version, so thanks to Haibo for that.

Hi, Chiron. I decided to file a bug report but I noticed a topic titled “Not Starting Virtual Kiosks/Win8 x64 Pro? [M168] [v6]”. Should I file a new report or is the mentioned bug the same as the one in this topic? (I can’t decide because my problem is not intermittent. After having reinstalled my Windows 7, CIS 6.2.282872.2847 Virtual Kiosk always fails to start, refuses to close and refuses to let Windows shut down or restart gracefully.)

Did you already try reinstalling by following all of my methods?

If you did, and that did not work, then as long as all symptoms mentioned in that bug report match what you are seeing, except the OS version, you can just respond to that bug report and explain your situation, along with useful information about your system.

Thanks.

Hello everyone. I’ve been a user of Comodo Firewall 5.12 till today, that I decided to uninstall it and try version 6.2. I have Windows 7 x64 SP1.

Everything worked fine till I tried the Kiosk and Sandbox features. I think I have the same or a similar problem that the previous posts. This is the list of things I did and gave me problems:

  • First: Kiosk never ends loading. And the first time I tried opening it, it ended freezing my entire PC.
  • Second: I tried running some programs in the sandbox. They worked ok. Then I just started doing other things like browser the web, and 30 minutes later the entire PC freezed again.
  • Third: I tried to find the cause, so I run Kiosk again. Kiosk kept loading. So I tried to kill the process. It did anything. Then I tried to run a program in the sandbox, it didn’t start. Then I saw that it created another virtkiosk.exe. Everytime I tried to load a program in the sandbox, it appeared another virtkiosk.exe process and nothing happened. None of those processes couldn’t be killed. Then I saw that I couldn’t run any program. The Desktop stopped responding. I couldn’t open or kill any process. Ctrl+Alt+Supr gave me a black screen with a weird message. Till I had to force a shutdown.

All the freezes happened gradually. The desktop stops responding, then some apps, then the taskbar, then everything. Not necessarily in that order. Resetting the sandbox didn’t fix anything either.

It would be nice if this heavy instability could be fixed for version 6.3. I didn’t find any more problems for now.

Please try reinstalling by following the methods I suggest in this post and see if that is able to solve your issues.

If not please report back.

Thanks.

Hi. Thanks for the fast reply. I didn’t reinstall it yet, but I wanted to add more information. Maybe could be useful.

In the Windows Event viewer I saw some system errors with ID 7034 that said something like “Service COMODO Virtual Service Manager ended unexpectedly. This happened 3 times.” I translated the message from Spanish to English so probably it isn’t the exact message that would be seen in an English version of Windows, but you get the idea.

Hi again. I did what you said but hasn’t changed anything.

Are you seeing that the Kiosk can never open? If so does resetting the sandbox help?

Also, about running programs in the sandbox and it freezing after about 30 minutes, are you by any chance referring to running Chrome in the sandbox? The reason I ask is that there is currently a bug between Chrome and the sandbox?

Thanks.

I’ve resetted the sandbox many times and nothing changes. About running programs, I didn’t try with Chrome, I tried with some random applications I have, including some simple .NET ones. It always ends freezing the PC. Sometimes it freezes faster or slower, but it’s always faster if I try to run the kiosk. Running it freezes my PC in a minute or two.

This sounds like a bug. Please create a new bug report for this in this section of the forum. Be sure to use the format provided in this topic and attach all required files.

Thank you.
