COMODO Registry Cleaner 1.0.12.15 RC Bug Reports [CLOSED]

Sorry guys…Here is the screenshot as requested.

A very BIZZar bug. And not a clue as to why??

I have been testing Comodo products for a while and this bug happened the first time I tried CRC Beta. No biggy but I figured it was just a workout during the beta progress.

Digg this

When I am running CRC 1.0.12.15 RC and I click on the Settings link in the Miscellaneous page this happens…

Ok, Running “Process Explorer (x64)” in the background I get this info,
Memory strings from both CRC and the Settings file.

The “Settings.exe” app is in the “SYSWOW64” folder and is used to change or configure your OP SYS ownership. It’s a small app created by a O.S. customizing group.
I changed the name from “Settings.exe” to “Settings.exe.old” and CRC no longer tries to open it, It then just opens the CRC settings page.

Hi ,

Can you please open the keys in regedit and make screenshots with the data values stored there .Those information are very useful for us . Thanks

Hi,

I am not very good at these things. Do you mean only these keys or do you want to see more? Thanks for helping me BTW (:LGH)

Hi ,

Thanks for the screenshot . Please make another one at the second key , the one that ends with CtxMgr\Strings .

Here it is…

Hi ,
We found out what happened . An older version of Windows Live Messenger doesn’t exist anymore. That invalid key is related with that older version . The new version needs the old version or at least, the key related with the old one . We ignored the key because it’s a simple exception of this application .

Following registry entry is being flagged as invalid:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run Value:KernalFaultCheck

Data value
%systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Export of this registry entry follows
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]

“KernelFaultCheck”=hex(2):25,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,72,00,6f,
00,6f,00,74,00,25,00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,
5c,00,64,00,75,00,6d,00,70,00,72,00,65,00,70,00,20,00,30,00,20,00,2d,00,6b,
00,00,00

All other entries are of type REG_SZ. This entry is of type REG_EXPAND_SZ.
This is a valid key.

Edit:
The entry to run the program “dumprep” does not include “.exe”. I added that to the registry entry and CRC no longer complains about this entry. I didn’t think the “.exe” was needed.

The following registry is listed under “Uninstall locations” . It is for Comodo\Registry Cleaner\CRC.EXE

Bug report for:
CRC_Setup_1.0.12.15_2k_XP_Vista_Server2003_x32_x64_RC.exe

Problem

  1. Install CRC above
  2. RunCRC
  3. Scan My Registry
  4. Clean Registry
Then you will loose your ability to defrag HDD.

CRC should not clean this registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\DefragPath]

If you allow CRC to delete this registry, then you will loose the “Defragment Option” in “My Computer”:-

DoubleClick “MyComputer”->Right Click “C:” Drive ->Properties->Select Tools Tab
You will now notice that the “Defragment Now” pushbutton is grayed out and cannot be used.

Recreating the registry:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MyComputer\DefragPath]
@=hex(2):25,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,72,00,6f,00,6f,00,74,00,25,
00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,64,00,66,00,
72,00,67,00,2e,00,6d,00,73,00,63,00,20,00,25,00,63,00,3a,00,00,00

will fix it.

ooops, i lost my defragment button too :THNK

Thanks for the fix mickko

When it came to install sundry Microsoft Automatic Updates specifically…

kb956077
kb953404
kb954478

they would not install using the .12 release candidate. Tried sundry things like downloading the updates manually, disabling this, disabling that (sorry, I don’t recall specifically). They still refused to install. I then restored my registry that Comodo had backed up and the items installed fine. Didn’t see this mentioned in the .12 release thread (since closed) and decided to post it here. Other than that during the limited time I had it, I didn’t have any problems. Have downloaded the .15 Beta but am curious whether anyone else has experienced this type of problem.

As CRC version 1.0.12.16 was released today we’re closing the bug reports list.
