Hi English68,
Have you checked Windows logs in Windows event viewer for any errors regarding Comodos services?
Windows event viewer
Hi,
Sorry for not posting before now.
No I hadn’t checked the Event Viewer and yes there are some errors in it caused by Comodo and I have listed two of these at the bottom. Do you want me to attach a copy of the logs? If I can see how to save them.
Thanks once again.

Hi English68,
Open the start menu and type Services.msc then click on services to open.
Scroll down until you find the COMODO Internet Security Helper Service double click on it to open properties.
Then go to the Log On tab and untick Allow service to interact with the desktop if it is ticked, then apply.
BTW no sorry required.

Hi Captainsticks,
Thanks for your reply. I have done what you said and unchecked that box. I rebooted the computer and ran the diagnostics and once again it said it had found an error. I click OK to fix. I rebooted and reran the diagnostics but it still says that there is a problem!!
From what I can see from the GUI etc there are no visible problems. If I hadn’t ran the Daignostics, I wouldn’t have discovered anything was wrong!
Sorry that didn’t help, someone might be able to come up with some answers from the Windows logs.
From reboot leave a short period of time before checking with diagnostics to let the system and Comodo initialize completely if you are not already doing that.
Hi and thanks for your suggestion about waiting longer after booting. I booted about an hour ago now (no not for the time, I was busy reading and replying to emails) and ran Diagnostics but it still says that there’s a problem!!
Hi English68,
For security and time it might be worth considering a fresh Uninstall/Reinstall to see if that solves the problem.
Not forgetting V6 is not to far off, at least for the Beta.
I will try to reinstall again and see if that helps.
Just to check I’m doing it right I must do these steps:
- Uninstall from the Add/Remove in the Control Panel.
- Run the Uninstaller (which I have already downloaded).
- Reboot and re-run the Uninstaller then reboot.
- Re-install Comodo with fingers and everything else crossed!!
I won’t import or export any settings in case something here is the problem!!
Can you confirm this is correct.
Thanks again.
The steps you have posted are correct.
Fingers crossed for you.
Well crossing everything didn’t work!!
Do you think it would be worth me running the Uninstaller program that I downloaded first?
I have to say that I did notice dozens and dozens of errors while running that program after uninstalling via the Add\Remove in the control panel.
Don’t know what else to do but run that program directly or hand delete EVERY Comodo file by searching for “Comodo”
Who knows? ???
Does Avast Pro AV have the sandbox enabled?
I would like to suggest to start from an as clean as possible state with only CIS installed and then install Avast and MBAM again and see where the problem starts.
First make sure that there are no left overs of security programs you had installed in the past. Please run removal tools for those programs. You can find a list of removal tools here: ESET Knowledgebase .
Next step is to uninstall Avast and MBAM. Reboot and run the clean up tools for them. Reboot when requested by the removal tool.
Now we should have a clean enough starting point. See if the problem with Comodo Application Agent is still present and report back.
Hi,
I have un-installed MBAM, Superantispyware, SpywareBlaster, Avast and Comodo. Using the cleaners for those products.
I uninstalled ONE product at a time, I rebooted and either used the cleaner again if required or CCleaner and then rebooted.
I then installed a fresh copy of Comodo, rebooted, waited ten minutes and ran the Diagnostics…HEY presto
it found an error!! OK, I had just installed. I clicked fix and after a few minutes reran the Diagnostics with nothing being found. I rebooted and once again, after 10 minutes, ran the Diagnostics and the result…problem found…
I have excluded virus infection from the start, a corrupt installer and now conflict between a security program and Comodo.
The only possibilities left are:
- that the Diagnostics doesn’t work properly either on Windows 7 or on 64 bit machines or (NO probs on my Win Xp PRO SP3 32 bit desktop) ;
- that some other program is interfering with Comodo in some way which is NOT a security program.
I have just taken the opportunity to run another ESET online scan while nothing was on the computer but it came up clean. Also with Bitdefender. Before asking, YES I do un-install them after use to avoid conflicts!!
As I’ve said before, Comodo shows nothing strange but only when I run the Diagnostics.
Can you check with Task Manager to see if cmdagent.exe is running (you need to enable “Show processes of all users”) before running Diagnostics?
Hi,
This is going to be my longest thread ever I think.
Anyway, yes cmdagent.exe is and was running when I ran the Diagnostics test. I have rebooted, checked that it was running and ran the test with the same usual results.
Maybe other people with Windows 7 64 or even 32 bit computers could be asked to check the diagnostics.
If cmdagent.exe is running while Diagnostics reports a problem telling the Comodo Internet Security Service is not running then we are looking at a bug.
If you have the time and energy please consider filing a bug report in the Bug Reports - CIS board following the format as described in FORMAT & GUIDE - just COPY/PASTE it!.
Reporting of bugs is strictly moderated to make sure Comodo gets clear bug reports. So, please make sure you closely follow protocol. That way your report will certainly be seen by Comodo staff.
Hi EricJH,
From what you have said “Diagnostics reports a problem telling the Comodo Internet Security Service is not running” it seems that maybe there is a misunderstanding.
The problem that CIS Service is not running is not the problem now. As I said in other posts there is nothing visually wrong. When the CIS Service wasn’t running, there was the Yellow exclamation mark and when I opened the GUI, the green tick was not there but the message saying about that error.
The problem now is that the Diagnostics tool finds something wrong but it doesn’t say what is wrong.
At this point (hoping a Comdo tech will see this), I’d like to suggest that the diagnostics tool is made to say WHAT the error/problem is instead of just “That there is an error” or produce some kind of log!!
Anyway, it could be caused by that first problem or maybe something unrelated to that. I don’t know. If you think I should report it as a bug I will do. but don’t the Comodo staff watch this forum as well? It is in their interest as well.
Thanks
Let me attach two screen shots taken while running the Comodo Uninstaller. As you can see there are many errors and things being denied access.

So I’m having the same problem. I can’t help but notice after reading all 15 prior posts in this thread that the only thing that has been accomplished here is that we’ve all gone around in circles, repeating the same process, asking the same questions. “Are you running anti-virus?” “Did you re-install?” “Run Diagnostics again” after its already been done 3 times in the past.
Its blatantly obvious none of these things are resolving the problem and that like was stated earlier is that there is an inherent problem with the software. In fact this problem has existed for years and isn’t something that is new or that will get resolved with an updated version of the software as doing research to resolve my problem I found many instances of the same thing happening a long long time ago.
Please find a /permanent/ solution, thanks. I like using Comodo software in fact it works fine on other computers but its too often hit or miss with me to be completely satisfied. Its secure as can be but the implementation has never been very fun. How long have you guys been around? C’mon how hard is it to fix these problems you guys have tons of financial assets and capital I’m sure of it. You’d think these things would have been ironed out by now given the age of the software. Good luck on a solution.
Just a quick update on this problem.
NOTHING has changed. A quick recap:
The “Diagnostics Tool” says that it has found an error. I click the “FIX” problem. Afterwards, if I run the “Diagnostics Tool” again WITHOUT rebooting it says there is not a problem.
If, however, I reboot and then re-run the “Diagnostics Tool” it says that an error has been found.
This problem just goes in circles with NO END in sight.
I have to say that without running the “Diagnostics Tool” NO ERROR is visible - No exclamation marks or anything whatsoever.
My colleague Chiron made a wonderful guide, Most Effective Way to Reinstall CIS to Avoid/Fix Problems on how uninstall/clean install CIS completely.
It also encompasses useful handles on how to easily remove possible left overs of previously installed other security programs.
With following this guide a clean and level playing field will be created from which we can either decide to try to look even deeper or have the problem reported s a bug.
