New:
System re-store point:
CIS will create a system re-store point before installation and update. This change essentially solves the problem of broken installation. In case system restoration doesn’t work, we have official uninstaller. So hopefully down the road this problem won’t surface again.

Changes:

  • Internet Security Essentials (Protection against Man in the Middle attacks) is now optional (selected by default) and can be found in Components section during installation.
  • GeekBuddy setup is completely removed. It was optional and not selected by default. If you don’t have GeekBuddy installed and you access Live support, it will launch Geek Buddy chat window in default browser.
  • “Manual Scan” scan profile now has heuristic option de-selected by default, same like “Full Scan” profile.
  • In Rating scan, when you see untrusted certificate listing, name will come from “Issued To” field of certificate rather “Friendly name” section. Trusted Root Certificate are listed by “Issued To” field and thus easier to find.
  • Due to increasing incompatibilities with upcoming Windows RS4 we have removed Enhanced Protection Mode(which was disabled by default) setting from HIPS ; there were advanced methods, which are no longer supported by Microsoft.

Improvements:

  • Improvment with file upload issue:
We have had frequent issues with file uploading in CIS and this release aims to fix it for ever, following are changes made:
    a) Max file upload limit is set to 128MB
    b) There are some client side changes to improve performance of back-end; as updates propagate we should see improvement in file submission

  • Improved detection of untrusted certificates. In last release we introduced Untrusted Certificate scan in Rating scan. But it could show legit certificate also. In this release we have updated logic and we can avoid showing known trusted certificate as untrusted as stated here. e.g. In this release, you won’t see false-detection as reported here. That’s the only one exception for now. Please report if you have any legit cases detected and we can put that in exclusion list.

Fixes:

  • Fixed crash as seen while browsing www.bankia.es/ as reported here

  • Error with Chinese Translation as reported here.

  • BSOD as reported by ‘Huolsam’ here.

  • Sometimes unknown certificates could not be removed as found during Rating Scan. Issue was reported here.

  • If you disable “check for database updates” option from “General Settings → Updates” section, Trusted Vendor List update check will also not be made.

  • There are multiple crashes fixed as reported via Crash Reporting feature. We will continue to fix submitted crashes in every release going forward. We hope to see improved stability in next releases.

Please give it a try and share your valuable feedback.

Thanks
-umesh

Hi TheUndertaker,
I didn’t check myself earlier, so now i played with it and unit tested; and i don’t see any problem with last released production v6420 either and CIS is blocking those domains on https sites also.

Here is my test:
Category:

Rule:

Browsing behavior using IE v11.15.16299.0 on OS Win10, 1709 (Build 16299.15)

I see ad blocked on nytimes.com as were received on:
https://securepubads.g.doubleclick.net/gampad/ads

May you please share browser name and version and also exact OS.

It could be support issue with specific combination.

So in general, don’t see any problem.

Also, when you see ads not blocked, please check if calls were really made on that blocked domain or not, just to confirm as ad delivery domains keep changing.

Thanks

Due to increasing incompatibilities with upcoming Windows RS4 we have removed Enhanced Protection Mode(which was disabled by default) setting from HIPS ; there were advanced methods, which are no longer supported by Microsoft.

Whether the EPM is removed on all Windows platform(xp/7/8/8.1/10) or just on RS4?

We have removed from all.

May the protection not be reduced. >:-D

Hi, umesh.

Why did you move “Scan Exclusions” from Antivirus tag to Advanced Protection tag? Quite confused :o

Agree, has been noticed by other users as well. When untrusted certificate scan was added, all were grouped and placed under “Advanced Protection Settings” considering Firewall also has Rating Scan that has certificate exclusion.
We will reconsider…

Windows 7 x64 sp1

Clean installing, open-close-reopen advanced setting window, then advanced setting window hangs and crashes. All the CIS UI can not be opened either via tray or widget even after reboot. PM sent to you.

Thanks, team will check.

Another issue is double click on the tray, no main UI open but the process is running(command line is “C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cis.exe” --mainUI).

Clean install on Win10 Pro x64 latest build

No problems yet. None of the mentioned Win7 issues, show on a Win10 system so far

Are you saying that Hyper-V technology isn’t used anymore? Just to be clear.
Thanks.

Yes, for now.
We even have compatibility issues in RS3 itself and can generate BSOD.
If there is popular demand and there are Win7 users, we can think about enabling it back in Win7.

CIS GUI crashed 2 hours into a 3 hour initial scan just after install. The scan continued and completed successfully . . . . .dmp file created

May you please share the dump?
