COMODO Internet Security 4.0.135239.742 Released

Oh, really? Look at the test recently taken by matousec.com. Avast 5 is a total failure when it comes to security, but at least it has a new and cool GUI :).

I wonder how CIS v4 will perform. I hope matousec.com will test it in a few days.

welll i kinda was talking of the free AV not AIS, but yeah i agree the firewall in avast does need work,

So are you saying all outgoing connections are allowed?
What happens if, like the recent report of a rogue by passing v4 got a hold of some valuable or personal information? >:-D

Allow outgoing traffic of white listed applications if in safe mode, Sure.
Allowing unknown applications outgoing traffic? Honestly… Who would think of that… ???

It is the new default by design for the Internet Security Configuration:

Nobody is keeping you from switching to Proactive. The configuration you have actively and righteously propagated in the Setting up Firewall/ Defense+ for maximum Security guides.

That’s not the point and you know it! :slight_smile:

That’s all very well and said, But I think you missed the bit where I said a simple rogue for example can bypass Defense+,the AV and auto allowed by the firewall. People have also reported Trojans… This isn’t an unique case… Nor Isolated to just the Security Concious. AFAIK malware doesn’t choose who it goes to Driectly ;D

This bit here;
"This product is NOT intended ONLY for security concious people like yourself. It has to be used by my mom too. "

So, In other words Mom’n’Pop are vulnerable to certain types of spyware where as security conscious people who modify Comodo’s default rules aren’t ? That doesn’t sound like something Mom’N’Pop to use!

Well If thats the case at least add a form like Trend Micro Internet Security. You have the ability to add your personal information into a form, and that information is not allowed to leave your PC. For example you can add your password to only be allowed to be sent to the Comodo forums.
^I should probably put that on the wishlist..

thank you!

and Thank you to everyone for your kind words guys! really really appreciated.

I never promised 100% security nor did I propagate such an idea. When something malicious leaps out of the sandbox in the default configuration it can call home. Not all of the malicious stuff knows how to leap out of the sandbox. So there is a net increase of security with the default configuration.

The catch with rogues is that they heavily rely on social engineering:

Rogue security software mainly relies on social engineering in order to defeat the security built into modern operating system and browser software and install itself onto victims' computers
. Src: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_security_software .

As a consequence rogues will get easily allowed to install all sort of stuff installed. The biggest risk is but too often sitting behind the keyboard. And I mean that in a non derogative manner.

~~~~~ Sort of Off-topic.. Well If thats the case at least add a form like Trend Micro Internet Security. You have the ability to add your personal information into a form, and that information is not allowed to leave your PC. For example you can add your password to only be allowed to be sent to the Comodo forums. ^I should probably put that on the wishlist..
That's an interesting idea. Please post it in the appropriate wish board and I will support it.
That is a masterpiece.
For your information,I have never seen a ■■■■ thing jump out of a properly
configured Sandboxie sandbox.
Thank god for the the faithfull that not ALL of the malware knows how to jump out of the Comodo’s.
You are ■■■■■■ off and shell shocked,my friend,time to hand off to the next drone.
Please give me example of how this rule in GLOBAL should look
Thanks.
Many MANY Thanks Comodo !!!
(:KWL)
Me too,it’s a false alarm.
        :comodorocks:                     (:CLP)
Thank You again egeman for a fine FREE product.
I will be the last person to complain about a totally free program,
(As a free Firewall Comodo is my first & only choice),
of course as an occasional Beta tester I also know that you welcome
feedback, That’s the only way to make something better.
I like many others could not understand no offline full installer
for 32 & 64 Bit. I downloaded the 64 bit full install that PrettyHot supplied.
I did a clean install of the program,(Comodo Firewall ONLY) on Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit. Everything is running great,the new cleaned up simplified GUI is an
improvement.
This is probably the 3rd time I have come here after a new release,
& seen people complaining about problems etc.To the people who are using
more than just the Firewall,are you all going to hacker cracker,& porn sites???
were on earth are people getting infected & feel you need all this extra protection, especially if you are running Vista or Win 7, I can understand 98 & Xp maybe.
I have mentioned this before & everyone just ignored me, I am up for an intelligent conversation about this if anyone is interested we can start a new
thread???
I am an experienced advanced computer user, & I do the following with my Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit system…
1.) I use a D-Link Router as a Hardware Firewall
2.) I turn on DEP for All programs & services.(My Processor supports Hardware Based DEP-Data Execution Prevention)
3.) I have UAC turned up Full to Always Notify especially when you
use the Internet.
4.)I use FireFox 3.6 with No Script
5.) Always keep my computer updated with Windows Critical Updates every Second Tuesday of the month.
6.) I use Microsoft Security Essentials V 1.0.1961.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=e1605e70-9649-4a87-8532-33d813687a7f
7.) I use Comodo V. 4 Firewall only to monitor & block outgoing traffic.
I have no problems no conflicts no slow downs period.
I have a dual boot system in which I also run Win Xp Pro 32 Bit Sp3,
with Comodo 4 & MSE.
Now if anyone wants to ask me how many times I have been infected etc.
in the last ten years be my guest.
Even if I did get infected who cares not me, I have no personal info on
my computer,I use valuable tools that are available to me like IMAGING my hard drive. There is also a great free program called Keyscrambler,in case you do get a Keylogger on your system.(I am not using it myself).
7.) I use Web based email only.
8.) Always use the latest Java & Flash Player available.
9.) I have Auto everything turned off.
I need functionality, I do not have months to wait for bug fixes,etc,
so I just move on & will use what works for me.
Just out of curiosity not a big deal but is there a place were you can download more themes??? for example instead of red a blue interface.
I have numerous problems with this version.
1.Why is there a global rule to block all incoming connections? this prevents uTorrent from uploading to anyone else and I do not see any way to fix it other than disabling the firewall. I will not be making any rules manually and wouldn’t even know how to start doing so.
  1. Why is there no way to clear the logs?
  2. It wants to run my mouse drivers, keyboard button drivers, and HP Quick play in the sandbox.
  3. It puts things in the sandbox even if the vendor is put in the trusted vendor list using the very same file that it keeps sandboxing . It sandboxes the file and then when I try to add the file to my own safe files, it says it’s already safe but continues to sandbox it anyway. This is a Steam file signed by Valve Corporation.
  4. It will not show my router in my all connections window and if for some magical reason it does show it as an internet connection, it says it’s disabled, will not allow me to enable it, and then it disappears again. I can connect to the internet fine but with the router not showing in the connections pane, I can not access the web based configuration for it.
  5. It makes no rules at all in either the firewall or D+ making me wonder if it’s even working.
  6. The Icon for CIS never shows in the system tray unless I click the icon on the desktop to load the GUI.
All things considered so far, I much preferred V3.14, even with having to deal with the occasional alert. I will probably be uninstalling this broken version of a program that I used to like very much and just going with Avast! AV and the XP firewall.
Showing pop-up everytime app is sandboxed is annoying. Where is option “Do not show alert for this application anymore”?
That test is using the new Avast! Internet security app which includes a firewall, not the AV by itself. I think the person was taking only of the new Avast!5 AV which is very good.
I was waiting for this release long time. And it was worth. Firewall is working very well, so far. Thank you and good job Comodo team :wink:
If I understand you correct, under ;
CIS-Defense±Sandbox-Alert Settings - Show notification for automatically sandboxed processes.
And if you are referring when sandbox alerts are given… I think that ‘the remember rule’ lasts till you reboot the machine as, I feel that currently CIS offer to remember only those applications which are digitally signed by a vendor. For other programs I feel currently CIS does not give an option to remember and when you reboot sandbox will again alert you for the same.
Also, please see the below given link.
https://forums.comodo.com/feedbackcommentsannouncementsnews-cis/comodo-internet-security-4-and-application-incompatibility-problems-reporting-t52466.0.html
If you tell it to not sandbox the file again, it goes into your own safe files and is not sandboxed the next time you use it.
I solved most of the issues I was having by disabling the sandbox and deleting the global rules to allow all outgoing and block all incoming. Now my router shows in my connections pane and is no longer saying it’s disabled. uTorrent also makes incoming connections now with an alert the first time just like in the earlier versions.
In my opinion the new features (the sandbox in particular) and configurations get a failing grade and do NOT make the program easier to use. I think just the opposite is the case. I have it working almost like v3.14 now except that it does not make rules for safe apps any more which I like.
I still want to be able to clear the logs though and can see no way to do so.
