Comodo FW and WebcamXP

Hi your FW seems great I downloaded v 2.3.6.81 yesterday and almost everything is good and almost understandable to a ‘non-tech’ like me. How do I set up a webcamXP (usb camera) programme so that I can view it from a remote location.
The programme is identified in the Application Control Rules as WebcamXP.exe-any-any-TCP/UDP IN/OUT-ALLOW.
When I connect from a remote locaction (laptop on a DUN while my desktop is on ADSL)
I keep getting messages in Activity-Log "Inbound policy violation (access denied, ip=192.168.1.xxx port 8080)
I have looked through the FAQs and am going around in circles, can you assist (please) with a simple guide for this WEBCAMXP programme.

G’day,

Couple of questions first;

  1. Does your PC connect to the internet through a router (or router/modem combo unit)?
  2. If so, what brand/model is it?
  3. Have you forwarded the appropriate ports on the router?
  4. Have you created a network monitor rule to allow the inbound request?

If you do have a router, questions 103 are critical.

If you connect via a modem, question 4 is critical.

Hope this helps,
Ewen

Hi Ewen
Thanks for your interest and I am now embarrassed!! The programme is working happily with Comodo when I use IE (v7) on both setups. I was testing it with Firefox when I posted my call for help. I still cannot get it to work with FF for some reason BUT in case there is a magic bullet for it (or me) to answer your questions:-
Router/modem, US Robotics 9003 Using ethernet cable not the usb facility.
ports 8080 & 8090 have been forwarded
(I have even swore at everything)
The programme (WebcamXP) works more speedily when I use Windows XP firewall, but of course I do not wish to rely on that FW for my protection.

I was going to raise another question about Firefox, it appears to be running slower since installing Comodo.

Once again thank you for your input.

If it works with IE 7 and not FF, you may have to check if you have a block rule for FF and webcamXP in application monitor.
You can also make a new allow rule with “C:\Program\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe” as application and webcamXP as parent. In misc tab, check the “skip advanced security checks”. Do that in your webcamXP rule as well.
Have you made a trusted zone? (security/tasks)
Have you made network a monitor rule for your webcam?
It should look like this.
Go to Network monitor (security/network monitor).
Right click on your block rule and add/add before.
Do these settings.

Action : Allow
Protocol : TCP or UDP
Direction : In
Source IP : Any
Destination IP : Any (or zone if you have one)
Source Port : Any
Destination Port : A set of ports : 8080,8090

If it doesn’t seem to work, restart CF or reboot your PC.

Always remember to place your allow rules you make, above the default block rule.
Network monitor reads the rules from the top to the bottom.

Also check the log in activity/logs and try to see which rule that blocks your app.
