" These Intel Microcode updates are supposed to patch hardware vulnerabilities that also require software and firmware level changes. Microcode updates were first released for Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities that required numerous security updates from Microsoft, Intel and OEMs "

Hi,

System

Second Boot Windows Disk

Before updates

Windows Update KB5000802 KB4589212

After updates

PC reboot 10 times = Systray Comodo> Ok

Comodo systray is good after updates ! :-TU

Tray icons seem to wear out over time.
Keep an eye on the tray icons I would say.

The goal being to raise info to the staff Comodo

Precisely! :-TU

Tests carried out today on PC:
Windows 10 Pro x64 updates Build 190.42.868

Updates:
KB5000802
KB4589212

Comodo installation CIS 12.2.2.7098

It seems that MS finally knows how to properly display tray icons and to keep them visible in Windows 10.

Right answer ! :-TU

No, still invisible for me today, fresh startup.

The tray icon tug of war game continues…
With MS on one end of the rope and Comodo on the other end.

Systray > Ok

Hi,

Is it possible for you to help us with the steps to reproduce this issue. There were cases when it happened after disabling traffic animation and after changing firewall mode. But now there is no such issue. If you are still facing this problem, then please let us know when does this happens exactly.

Hello, I’ve been facing this issue for months, maybe I could give you some answers or send you some logs.

My configuration: Windows 10 20H2 Build 19042.868 (fast startup in windows is disabled), Comodo Firewall 12.2.2.7098 with configuration COMODO - Firewall Security, both widget and traffic animation disabled.
Startup item is in Scheduled tasks and has following path C:\Program Files\COMODO\COMODO Internet Security\cis.exe --cistrayUI.

It happens after login to windows when all startup programs are starting. Comodo Firewall tray icon appears invisible. Issue can be fixed until next reboot when I close the program via invisible tray icon and reopen it. Then it will always start with visible icon. Second temporary fix is by enabling and disabling traffic animation. Sometimes I thought this issue might be related to delay between windows startup and actual login. I’m not 100% sure about it, but from time to time I have the tray icon visible immediately after login to OS and I think it might be caused by delay between windows boot and login. If I don’t login to OS immediately when windows login screen appears but let’s say 20-30 seconds later, then there’s bigger chance comodo tray icon will be visible. Recently I haven’t been waiting before login to OS at all and every time comodo started with invisible icon.

After 12.0.0.6882, the failure of “taskbar icon” disappeared is still not solved.
It feels like the development team has changed…

Still here on latest version v12.2.2.8012, win10 v1909

This thread started in 2019…

The taskbar icon appears and disappears randomly. No reproducible way to force it to happen. Sometimes I reboot and it shows, other times it doesn’t. Though I think it never shows up when i do a cold start from a full shutdown.

edit: when the icon is invisible, it shows up after i connect to internet, then it stays there like normal. But after reboot, there’s a chance it’s invisible again until I connect internet. lol. completely random.

There were cases when the tray icon become invisible after disabling traffic animation and after changing firewall mode. With recent CIS versions there is no such issue after changing fire mode and traffic animation. But still some customers are reporting this problem and they are not sure about when this happens. I will request our developers to focus on this issue.

After version 12.0.0.6882, after restarting explorer.exe, the COMODO Firewall taskbar icon disappears.

try this
reg add “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced” /v “SeparateProcess” /t REG_DWORD /d “1” /f
reg add “HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer” /v “DesktopProcess” /t REG_DWORD /d “1” /f

check to see if you have something with tray icon in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\COMODO\CIS\Options
backup KEY first !

updated to the old beta new version here, NORMAL usage is OK !
btw chrome downloaded something and CiS got it right away…impressive…good work COMODO Team !

Regarding appearing / disappearing CIS tray icon…

On my Windows 7 the CIS tray icon never disappears, it is always visible in the tray.
However, there are two specific cases in which the CIS tray icon does not appear:

  1. When FW is set to “Block All” mode and rebooting the system than the CIS tray icon is not visible after reboot and stays invisible till the FW mode is set a mode other then “Block All” (set to “Safe Mode” for instance), the tray icon shows up immediately then.

  2. When FW is set to a normal mode (set to “Safe Mode” for instance) and unplugging the network cable from the computer and than performing a system reboot (with the cable still unplugged) than the CIS tray icon is also not visible, the tray icon shows up again as soon as the network cable is plugged back in.

Maybe for Windows 10 users the following is worthwhile to try:
When the icon is not visible in the tray than unplug the network cable from your computer (or disable Wifi) and then wait for a minute or so before plugging the cable back in (or enable Wifi again) to see if the hidden icon then appears on Windows 10 again. (Surely, it is a ridiculous method to bring back the icon but it could help to find the real problem on Windows 10 systems).
Maybe the Windows 10 icon issue is in some way related to what I see on Windows 7.

On Windows 7 the CIS tray icon is working fine.
