Comodo Firewall Pro 2.4.12.146 RC2 Released

No interface text at this RC2. If i click on Add zone link at security, then it’ll display my Realtek.

EDIT: i’ve switched back to English, see second picture for detail, fun (Microsoft TV/video connection :)).

I got a “Comodo Firewall” and a “Comodo Firewall PRO” shortcut at start menu.

Hi,

I’ve got the infamous PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA ***STOP: 0x00000050 bug.
And unfortunately Windows doesn’t create any dump (done a full search on my system drive of *.dmp and nothing) that could help you guys.

And I’m running some apps which would take some time to uninstall/re-install and reconfigure the way I like it:

  • NOD32 antivirus 2.70.16
  • Sunbelt CounterSpy 1.5.82
  • PeerGuardian 2
  • DaemonTools 3.47

Besides that, my Windows XP SP2 is running on an ASUS A7N8X-E NForce 2 based (AMD Athlon 2500+) board with an ATI Radeon 9600 based graphic card with quite old drivers: 6.14.10.6483 signed and WHQL certified without the ATI “■■■■■■” control panel  )

Version 2.3.6.81 was running perfectly on that system, only got that problem with RC1 and RC2 (didn’t test any Beta before).

Hope these few information helps even if I couldn’t provide you guys with a dump.

I guess there’s gonna be a RC3 before the final 2.4 to solve that issue

parle pas de malheur! (lol)

si tu es francais, tu peux aussi poster la:

I am also having this problem now (but not with 2.3) :frowning:

I have now “retreated” all the way to ver 2.4.9.126  , where these problems were not there… also it load a lot faster than RC2.

I confirm, like foxman & red502, that UPHClean fails to start. Event Log reason: User profile hive cleanup service was unable to load and start a required driver.

Also the Log contents are not saved on a restart/shutdown unless CFP is manually closed first.

So I was using Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall 4.x up until now, but it looks like that one hasn’t been updated in a while. I also saw that Comodo is making great progress with 2.4 so I decided to give it a shot. I uninstalled the other firewall rebooted and installed Comodo from this thread.

Here are some of my first impressions (I am a power user so I am trying to see if I can set this firewall up as quickly as possible and to see how much power it gives me to tweak and customize things):

  1. It looks like it relies on Comodo approved applications, but I can’t find a list of those I can add or block applications. I can also disable that magic list.
  2. The biggest and I would say weakest point for me is the Alerts:
    a. Depending on the level that I set it shows either less or more alerts (this is somewhat ok)
    b. I can not go into advanced and change the rule. For example Yahoo Messenger uses port 5050 to connect. There’s no edit screen that I can access from Alert that let’s me pick just port 5050 or a specific IP address. Kerio has this for a long time and it’s a great thing. This way I can allow ALL connections to this port or just this specific IP and Port. Is it possible to add “Advanced” button that will launch "Application Control Rule screen with the info from the alert prefilled, this way we could edit things in a consistent way and hit apply and have the settings go into effect.
    c. I am going to use Yahoo Messenger here again. So I started Yahoo Messenger and my screen is showing Comodo alerts (with an increasing number) it also looks like Yahoo is actively trying to find an open port while I am still on the alerts screen, so by the time I hit allow it might not matter anymore, because Yahoo Messenger might be using a different connection already? Kerio somehow makes application wait until some sort of an answer has been selected. This would also reduce the number of alerts. It would also help me to see things working or not.
    d. If I am on the topic of this if there’s more than one alert and I select Allow, does that Allow ALL of the alerts or just the one I am looking at?
    e. Is there a way to globally allow DNS? I selected High and Very High settings in hope that I’ll be able to edit the rules through alerts and now it’s asking me to allow connections to port 53 (dns).
    f. I like tray animation, but I guess i’ll need time to adjust to it. It looks like when there’s no network traffic it shows the shield icon and when there’s it shows moving arrows. Kerio had a rather nice option where it showed how much traffic was going which way. So it had 2 bars where the height would suggest how much traffic is going each way. This was rather neat as it allowed me to see overall network utilization from my firewall.
    g. So I just gotten another confusing alert which showed a packet that’s being sent out with a security warning on the bottom about Yahoo Messenger trying to load idle.dll through a global hook. When I clicked on the security section and selected block and hit apply. Then I hit allow and when I checked it showed in the component monitor it has “allow” for idle.dll. This is a bit weird, but now I set it to block. One more note here: In terms of usability it’s confusing to see both security and network stuff in the same alert, esp with one set of allow/deny buttons.

EDIT: Added some more items I just noticed…

The U.I. of this build seems to be much slower on my system.

E.g. If I try to add a new rule, there is a 3-10 second delay when clicking on the different buttons.

My CPU usage remains below 30%.

Also, there is still no sign of the promised password protection (is it really that hard to implement now)?

On a positive note, this release handles the “OLE popups issue” much better than 2.3. (:CLP)

Just noticed something weird with RC2. First of all things are automatically blocked for no particular reason. I tried to reset and restart with mixed success. One example is Yahoo Messenger. Now I get the first alert for DNS which I hit allow and select remember. Then I don’t get any alerts and it failes to connect. I also see it being blocked in the log? If I go and edit the manual rule to Allow all protocols, ports and directions then it somehow doesn’t get applied and Yahoo still can’t connect. This is starting to impact things for me.

McAfee plus Alcohol %120 causes no problems now. Seen some say about User Profile Hive Cleanup and looked, I have the same problem it will not automatically start. There is still a problem with Arovax Shield. When Arovax Shield is setup to run at startup the computer freezes or slows down so much that you think it is froze.

That’s because you probably have the old link “Comodo Firewall” and then you got the new one when installed 2.4 RC2 “Comodo Firewall PRO”.

They renamed it.

I haven’t tried it but many people seem to have problems. Of course you know that it’s wiser to shift the release date a few days further rather than release a half-broken version, right?

Hi all!

Try to use my method of solving the problem with dead screen.

Use some program to tune up start up section of your registry or make it manually. Find the area starting file htpatch.exe and delete it. Reboot! Enjoy!

Good luck!

Working perfectly well on my system! :BNC

Congratulations and keep up the good work!!

I still get the BOSD guys and now it gets even better. I can’t even restart the system with last know workign settings. It gives the BOSD to. I know that you always ask for a dumpfile, and I would send you guys one if I would just get my laptop started again.

Thank you Comodo

Simply start your machine in save mode. (Press F8 when windows start up.)
There you can deinstall the cfp.

And its still Beta…don´t forget this

Have you tried to check the “skip advanced security…” in the application monitor rule for Arovax?

I never noticed this but I’ve got that as well - Windows 2000 SP4 up-to-date. It started on 2 Jan for me which is when I installed 131 beta.
The EventID is 1031 and Event Properties says:
"User profile hive cleanup service was unable to load and start a required driver.
